Epiroc Secures Major Mining Equipment and Digital Solutions Order in Ghana

Canadian mining company Asante Gold has placed a substantial order with Epiroc for a comprehensive suite of underground mining equipment and digital solutions to enhance operations at its Chirano Gold Mine in southwestern Ghana. The Chirano Gold Mine is a hybrid operation, combining both underground and open-pit mining methods, and is a significant asset for Asante Gold. The order reflects Asante Gold’s commitment to modernizing its mining processes while boosting efficiency and safety across its operations.

The order includes a fleet of advanced underground mining trucks, loaders, face drilling rigs, and production drilling rigs, all designed to support high-performance mining operations. In addition to the equipment, Asante Gold has also invested in a cutting-edge digital situational awareness solution from Epiroc. This system will allow the company to track its machinery in near real-time, providing critical production metrics such as tonnages moved, cycle times, and meters drilled. The solution is expected to enhance operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and strengthen safety measures across the mine.

Epiroc will provide comprehensive support for the equipment, including tools, spare parts, and service assistance, ensuring that the machinery performs reliably throughout its operational life. The equipment order, which was booked in the third quarter of 2025, is valued at approximately MSEK 115 (MUSD 12), underscoring the scale and significance of the investment.

Helena Hedblom, President and CEO of Epiroc, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “We are very pleased to support Asante Gold with our top-modern loaders, trucks, and drilling rigs,” Hedblom said. “The digital situational awareness solution will not only boost operational efficiency but also enhance safety through improved production monitoring and operational oversight.”

Echoing the sentiment, Dave Anthony, President and CEO of Asante Gold, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership. “We are excited to collaborate with Epiroc to upgrade operations and increase gold production at our Chirano Mine,” Anthony said. “The Epiroc mine equipment fleet is world-class and brings advanced technology, reliability, and operational precision. This strategic partnership marks a significant step towards unlocking Chirano’s full potential, and we are confident it will generate lasting value for years to come.”

The specific equipment included in the order comprises the Minetruck MT65 S hauler, Scooptram ST18 S loader, Boomer M20 S face drilling rig, and Simba E70 S production drilling rig. These machines are part of Epiroc’s Smart series, which means they are automation-ready, allowing Asante Gold to explore future opportunities for increased automation and operational efficiency. The Smart series is designed for high reliability, durability, and ease of maintenance, ensuring that mining operations run smoothly even under demanding conditions.

Epiroc’s digital situational awareness solution complements the hardware by providing a connected ecosystem where equipment performance, location, and production metrics are continuously monitored. This integration enables Asante Gold to optimize workflow, reduce downtime, and make data-driven decisions that enhance productivity and safety. The system is particularly valuable in mixed underground and open-pit operations like Chirano, where real-time visibility into equipment status can significantly impact operational outcomes.

Delivery of the equipment has already commenced and will continue over the coming months. Once fully deployed, Asante Gold expects to see measurable improvements in operational efficiency, productivity, and safety, reinforcing its position as a leading gold producer in Ghana.

This investment highlights the growing trend in the mining industry toward digitalization and automation, with companies increasingly seeking technologically advanced equipment and solutions to maintain competitiveness. Epiroc’s role as a supplier of both high-performance mining equipment and integrated digital solutions positions it as a key partner for miners looking to modernize operations while maximizing safety and efficiency.

By combining robust, automation-ready machinery with real-time operational data, Asante Gold is taking a significant step toward modernizing its mining operations, ensuring that the Chirano Gold Mine continues to deliver value and sustain growth for years to come. The collaboration reflects a forward-looking approach, aligning advanced mining technology with strategic operational goals.
