Boeing and Emirates SkyCargo announced today an order for an additional five 777 Freighters, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to meet escalating global cargo demand with the world’s most advanced twin-engine freighter. This latest acquisition brings Emirates’ total Boeing widebody orders to 245, which includes 10 777 Freighters.
Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates, plans to increase its main deck cargo capacity by 30% by 2026 through this investment in the 777 Freighter. The airline’s freighter fleet will expand to 17 aircraft, comprising 777 Freighters, 777 converted freighters, and 747 Freighters.
“This investment in additional Boeing 777 capacity allows us to efficiently address growing customer demand and supports our long-term strategic growth objectives,” said His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group. “As we look ahead, we will evaluate our future freighter fleet to ensure we remain well-positioned to meet evolving market needs and uphold our role in global trade, bolstered by Dubai’s ambitious Economic Agenda.”
The 777 Freighter offers unmatched capabilities, including a range of 9,200 kilometers (4,970 nautical miles) and a payload capacity of 102 metric tons (112 tons), making it ideal for long-range, nonstop flights connecting key cargo markets such as the Middle East, U.S., and Europe.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed Boeing’s pride in Emirates SkyCargo’s continued selection of the 777 Freighter to expand its global operations. “Emirates’ ongoing trust in the Boeing widebody family underscores our commitment to supporting their growth strategy,” Pope noted.
Boeing, a leader in cargo aircraft manufacturing, provides over 90% of the world’s dedicated freighter capacity, including both new and converted airplanes. With over 265 deliveries to date, the 777 Freighter remains Boeing’s best-selling freighter airplane.
