Boeing and Emirates SkyCargo have announced an order for five additional Boeing 777 Freighters, further enhancing Emirates’ position in global air cargo operations. This new order, finalized in September and previously listed as unidentified on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website, builds on Emirates’ earlier purchase of five 777 Freighters. With this latest addition, Emirates’ total Boeing widebody aircraft orders reach 249, including 14 777 Freighters.
As the cargo division of the world’s largest international airline, Emirates SkyCargo is set to operate a fleet of 21 Boeing 777 Freighters in the coming years, nearly doubling its current fleet of 11. The expansion aligns with Emirates’ strategy to increase capacity in response to growing demand. “We’re investing in new freighter aircraft to meet surging demand and provide our customers with greater flexibility, connectivity, and options,” said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group. He highlighted Dubai’s rise as a prominent global logistics hub and the success of Emirates SkyCargo’s specialized solutions tailored to various industries.
The Boeing 777 Freighter, the world’s largest and longest-range twin-engine freighter, can fly up to 9,200 kilometers (4,970 nautical miles) and carry 102 tonnes of cargo. This unmatched performance enables operators to fly more freight on direct routes, enhancing connections between key markets such as the Middle East, the U.S., and Europe.
“Emirates continues to lead the way in our industry, and we are grateful for the trust they have placed in Boeing,” said Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “We are proud to support Emirates SkyCargo’s growth with the versatility and performance of the 777 Freighter.”
Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook forecasts that over the next 20 years, 2,845 freighters will be added to the global fleet to meet the demands of growing trade and e-commerce. The 777 Freighter remains Boeing’s best-selling freighter, with 275 units delivered to date. Boeing continues to dominate the freighter market, supplying more than 90% of dedicated freighter capacity worldwide through new production and converted aircraft.
