Eaton Enhances Montreal Innovation Center with Expanded Focus on Energy Transition R&D

Eaton Announces Expansion of Montreal Innovation Center with New Experience Center and 50 Jobs Eaton, a leader in intelligent power management, has revealed plans to expand its Montreal Innovation Center in Brossard, Quebec, less than a year after its debut. The company, which has been advancing cutting-edge software in the region for nearly 40 years, first launched the center to focus on research and development of distributed energy resources (DER) technologies. The expansion will add 9,000 square feet and 50 specialized positions, bringing the total number of jobs to approximately 200 in Brossard.

A new Experience Center will be part of this expansion, designed to offer hands-on training for digital technologies that drive the energy transition, thus accelerating innovation and adoption of new solutions. “Innovation and industry education are crucial for advancing to smarter, more sustainable energy systems,” said Luiz Fernando Huet de Bacellar, PhD, Eaton’s Vice President of Engineering and Technology. “We are thrilled to expand our center and continue driving forward technologies that support a more sustainable future.”

With global renewable energy availability increasing, advanced power management technologies are essential for optimizing DERs and integrating them with the electric grid. Eaton has invested $1.3 billion in sustainable research and development since 2020, aiming to reach $3 billion by 2030. The Montreal Innovation Center works closely with customers like Hydro-Québec to develop novel solutions, such as a next-generation microgrid system to enhance the integration of renewables and energy storage.

“The expansion, especially the new Experience Center, will significantly boost collaboration between Eaton and Hydro-Québec, facilitating better integration of innovative technologies into our distribution system,” noted Hervé Delmas, Automation Engineer at Hydro-Québec.

Opened in November 2023, Eaton’s Montreal Innovation Center focuses on optimizing DERs through interdisciplinary collaboration, including cybersecurity, software, human-centered design, and automation.
