Daimler Buses Showcases Electric and Digital Innovations at Busworld Europe 2025 in Brussels

Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Brussels — Daimler Buses is gearing up for a high-profile presence at Busworld Europe 2025, taking place in Brussels from October 4 to 9, with a dedicated press preview on October 3. The company is set to unveil a lineup of cutting-edge vehicles and technologies that reaffirm its leadership in sustainable, safe, and connected mobility. With a total of eight advanced buses from Mercedes-Benz and Setra showcased at Stand 503 in Hall 5, and three additional vehicles available for outdoor viewing—including two for test drives—Daimler Buses will place a strong emphasis on electromobility, digitalization, safety, and aftersales innovation.

World Premiere: The Fully Electric Mercedes-Benz eIntouro

A key highlight at Busworld Europe 2025 is the world debut of the Mercedes-Benz eIntouro, Daimler Buses’ first fully electric intercity bus. Designed to bring zero-emissions mobility to rural routes, school transport, shuttle services, and short-haul trips, the eIntouro marks a significant milestone. Built on the proven Intouro diesel platform, this version is powered by a battery-electric drive featuring LFP batteries and a central electric motor.

Two variants of the eIntouro will be available: a 12.18-meter version and a longer 13.09-meter model known as the eIntouro M. This bus brings several innovations to market, including “over-the-air” software update capabilities, a first for a European intercity bus. This feature allows operators to install essential updates remotely, minimizing downtime and boosting fleet efficiency.

Next-Gen Battery Tech: NMC4 in the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro

Continuing its commitment to electric mobility, Daimler Buses is showcasing a Mercedes-Benz eCitaro equipped with the all-new NMC4 battery generation. Slated for rollout in 2026, the NMC4 batteries will be standard across the eCitaro model family—including the eCitaro G, eCitaro K, and eCitaro Fuel Cell.

The NMC4 technology offers a dramatic improvement in energy density, enabling significantly longer driving ranges. It also features enhanced battery longevity thanks to optimized charging processes. The system supports both battery-preserving charging at up to 150 kW and rapid charging at up to 300 kW. These upgrades are tailored to meet the demanding needs of city transit operators transitioning to full electrification.

Setra Presents Premium Intercity and Touring Coach Lineup

Setra, Daimler Buses’ luxury bus brand, will present a broad cross-section of its intercity and touring coach offerings at the Brussels show. Highlights include:

  • The Setra S 515 LE, a low-entry intercity bus from the MultiClass series
  • The S 515 HD, representing the versatile and comfortable ComfortClass
  • The S 516 HDH, an elite, high-deck coach that showcases the TopClass range
  • The S 531 DT, a double-decker bus offering high passenger capacity and multi-route versatility

These vehicles emphasize premium comfort, long-haul endurance, and advanced safety features tailored to both regional and international travel needs.

Battery Lifecycle Solutions: Refurbishment and Replacement Programs

In a bid to maximize the lifecycle and sustainability of its electric fleet, Daimler Buses is launching new battery refurbishment and replacement services. Beginning in 2026, operators of the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro will be able to opt for battery reconditioning or replacement with the latest NMC4 modules, significantly extending vehicle lifespan and operational value.

These services are part of a broader e-service strategy that prioritizes the entire lifecycle of e-buses—from initial deployment to eventual repowering—ensuring economic viability and environmental responsibility.

Omniplus Charge: Turnkey Charging Infrastructure

Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH is introducing Omniplus Charge, a specialized brand dedicated to supporting the electrification journey of bus fleets. This division will offer comprehensive services, including consulting, planning, and implementing complete charging ecosystems.

Omniplus Charge delivers end-to-end solutions from feasibility studies and custom-configured e-buses to infrastructure components like battery storage, power installations, and digital charging management systems. In collaboration with internal experts and external partners, Daimler Buses can now deliver an all-in-one eMobility ecosystem, addressing the infrastructure challenges that often hinder large-scale fleet electrification.

Expanding Digital Services with Omniplus On

Omniplus, Daimler Buses’ dedicated service brand, is expanding its digital service portfolio to enhance operational efficiency for bus operators. Starting this year, every new Daimler bus will be optionally equipped with a Digital Services Package—three years free for diesel buses and six years for electric buses.

One of the standout features is the introduction of “over-the-air” system and software updates, launching with the new eIntouro. This remote update functionality reduces workshop downtime, keeping fleets continuously optimized.

Another innovative addition is speed-related geofencing, available through Omniplus On Monitor Tracking Services Plus. Fleet managers can define specific zones where vehicles automatically adhere to speed limits. Once a bus enters such a zone, its onboard limiter enforces the maximum allowed speed, boosting safety in sensitive urban or school zones.

Battery Monitoring and Warranty Tools for eBuses

For electric fleets, Omniplus On Battery Monitoring provides real-time insights into battery health and usage optimization strategies. This data-driven service allows operators to fine-tune charging and operating procedures for longevity and performance.

In parallel, a free Warranty Status service helps fleet managers track warranty conditions and avoid unintended violations, ensuring regulatory compliance and cost efficiency.

Through its participation in Busworld Europe 2025, Daimler Buses is delivering a powerful message: the future of mobility is not just electric, but also smart, safe, and sustainable. Whether through groundbreaking vehicle launches, digital services, or holistic infrastructure support, Daimler Buses continues to pave the way toward a cleaner and more connected transportation landscape across Europe and beyond.
