Coastal Bend LNG has taken a decisive step toward delivering next-generation, low-carbon liquefied natural gas (LNG) by selecting KBR, Inc. and Técnicas Reunidas to lead the front-end engineering and design (FEED) of its planned LNG export facility along the Texas Gulf Coast. The announcement underscores growing momentum in the global LNG sector toward efficiency, scalability, and emissions reduction—key priorities as energy markets evolve.
Subject to a positive final investment decision (FID), KBR and Técnicas Reunidas will transition from FEED into full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) execution, positioning the Coastal Bend LNG project as a critical contributor to cost-competitive and lower-carbon LNG supply.
Leveraging Proven LNG Technology for Cost and Carbon Efficiency
At the core of the project’s design is ConocoPhillips’ Optimized Cascade® Process (OCP), a widely proven LNG liquefaction technology known for its operational efficiency and reliability. The facility is planned to include multiple large-scale liquefaction trains, enabling flexibility and scalability while supporting Coastal Bend LNG’s long-term production goals.
By integrating OCP with modern engineering practices and decarbonization strategies, the project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining competitive LNG production costs. This approach reflects a broader industry shift toward sustainable energy infrastructure that aligns with both regulatory expectations and customer demand for lower-carbon energy solutions.
A Shared Vision for Low-Carbon LNG Development
Leadership from all three organizations emphasized the importance of collaboration in delivering efficient, lower-emissions LNG to global markets.
Nick Flores, CEO of Coastal Bend LNG, highlighted the strategic value of the partnership, noting that KBR and Técnicas Reunidas bring extensive expertise across LNG engineering, process technologies, and industrial decarbonization. According to Flores, the combined capabilities of Coastal Bend LNG, KBR, Técnicas Reunidas, and ConocoPhillips will help maximize operational efficiency while minimizing the project’s carbon intensity.
This alignment of technical excellence and sustainability goals positions the facility to meet rising global demand for low-carbon LNG, particularly from markets focused on energy security and emissions reduction.
KBR’s Gulf Coast LNG Legacy Strengthens Project Execution
For KBR, the selection reinforces its longstanding leadership in LNG infrastructure development. With more than five decades of experience in LNG engineering and deep operational roots along the Gulf Coast, KBR brings proven capability in designing efficient, scalable, and future-ready energy facilities.
Jay Ibrahim, President of KBR’s Sustainable Technology Solutions, emphasized that the project reflects how LNG can be produced and delivered more responsibly to global markets. The collaboration supports Coastal Bend LNG’s ambition to set a new benchmark for low-carbon LNG production from the United States.
Técnicas Reunidas Expands Its Role in LNG Decarbonization
Técnicas Reunidas also views the Coastal Bend LNG project as a model for the future of LNG development. The company’s leadership pointed to the importance of applying decarbonization innovations across the LNG value chain to meet evolving end-market expectations.
By working closely with technology providers and project owners, Técnicas Reunidas continues to advance LNG facilities that balance performance, cost efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
A New Standard for LNG Export Facilities
As global energy systems transition, projects like Coastal Bend LNG demonstrate how natural gas liquefaction can evolve to support cleaner energy goals without compromising reliability or scale. The FEED award to KBR and Técnicas Reunidas marks a critical milestone in shaping an LNG export facility designed for long-term competitiveness and reduced environmental impact.
