Braskem Highlights Sustainable Leadership at K Fair 2025

Braskem Showcases Sustainable Innovation at K Fair 2025

Braskem, a leading global petrochemical company dedicated to developing sustainable chemical and plastic solutions that enhance people’s lives, is taking center stage at K 2025 – the world’s largest international trade fair for the plastics and rubber industries. The event, held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from October 8 to 15, serves as a platform for Braskem to reinforce its leadership in biopolymers production and its ongoing commitment to driving a carbon-neutral circular economy.

“At Braskem, we provide our clients with a complete ecosystem of scalable sustainable solutions, along with tailored services and initiatives that help our partners achieve their sustainability goals,” says Walmir Soller, Vice President for North America, Europe, and Asia (NAMEA). “Participating in K 2025 allows us to demonstrate not only our innovative products but also our strategic vision for a circular and low-carbon future, which strengthens our competitiveness in the industry.”

Decade-Long Presence at K Fair

Braskem has been a consistent participant at K Fair since 2010, using the event to showcase its latest innovations in sustainable materials. This year, the company presents a robust portfolio focused on renewable and circular solutions. Two of the highlights include:

  • Renewable Carbon: The I’m green™ line of bio-based polymers is produced from sugarcane ethanol. These polymers not only offer a negative carbon footprint but also carry international certifications that validate their environmental benefits. I’m green™ products include polyethylene, EVA, and polyethylene wax, providing sustainable alternatives for a variety of industrial applications.
  • Circular Carbon: The Wenew™ ecosystem encompasses resins and chemicals derived from recycling, aimed at giving new life to plastic waste and promoting material circularity. The solutions offer manufacturers and brands the ability to integrate recycled content into their products, helping to reduce environmental impact while supporting responsible supply chains.

“Developing solutions that reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance recycling is at the core of our mission,” adds Soller. “Our complete ecosystem of sustainable solutions keeps carbon in the loop, promotes supply chain accountability, and fosters continuous innovation across industries.”

Pioneering Sustainable Development

Braskem’s journey toward sustainability began in 2010 with the production of polyethylene from sugarcane ethanol. Over the years, the I’m green™ portfolio has expanded to include a variety of bio-based materials, meeting the growing demand for products that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Today, more than 200 companies across 40 countries use I’m green™ polyethylene, demonstrating its global impact.

The company also implements the Responsible Ethanol Purchasing Program, which ensures ethical sourcing of raw materials, compliance with human rights standards, and social responsibility throughout the supply chain. “By controlling and auditing our supply chain, we generate a positive impact for society, maintain safe working conditions, and uphold sustainability from the very beginning of production,” says Soller.

Wenew™: Driving Circularity at Scale

Another key pillar of Braskem’s sustainability strategy is the Wenew™ ecosystem. This portfolio of recycled-content products has grown significantly in recent years. By the end of 2024, Wenew™ included over 55 product types with sales exceeding 85,000 tons – a growth of more than 35 times since 2019. Visitors at K 2025 can explore the full breadth of these solutions, from recycled resins to specialty chemicals, highlighting the company’s commitment to circularity and innovation.

Circular Design and Packaging Innovation

Sustainability at Braskem extends beyond materials to include product design. The company’s Cazoolo™ circular packaging design lab, also featured at K 2025, focuses on developing packaging that minimizes environmental impact. By prioritizing recyclability, optimization, reuse, and redesign, Cazoolo™ ensures that packaging contributes to a circular economy from the outset, supporting consumers and brands in reducing waste throughout the product lifecycle.

Commitment to Carbon Circularity and Climate Goals

Braskem’s approach to sustainability is deeply aligned with global climate objectives. The company offers solutions that help eliminate plastic waste, mitigate climate change, and drive innovation within responsible supply chains. These efforts contribute not only to business value but also to improving the quality of life for communities worldwide. Braskem has set ambitious targets, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 15% and expanding its biopolymers portfolio to 1 million tons by 2030, signaling a firm commitment to sustainable growth.

By combining renewable materials, circular solutions, responsible sourcing, and innovative design, Braskem continues to lead the plastics industry toward a more sustainable future. Its presence at K 2025 underscores both the progress already achieved and the ongoing commitment to building a carbon-neutral, circular economy.
