The Beaumont New Ammonia (BNA) facility in southeast Texas has successfully produced its first ammonia following the completion of initial systems testing, marking the first phase of commissioning for the project.
Commercial ammonia production is expected to commence in early 2026 after the facility is formally handed over from OCI Global (“OCI”) to Woodside Energy (“Woodside”). Production of lower-carbon ammonia is targeted to begin in the second half of 2026.
Global demand for lower-carbon ammonia continues to strengthen, driven by growing interest from customers in Europe and Asia as they advance energy security and decarbonisation strategies.
Woodside has also secured agreements with leading international customers for the supply of significant volumes of conventional ammonia from the BNA facility. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026 and continue through the end of the year under contracts linked to prevailing market prices. Additional supply agreements are progressing to align with expected production levels, including future lower-carbon ammonia output.
Woodside Vice President, Beaumont New Ammonia, Kellyanne Lochan, said the successful commissioning and testing activities confirm the facility’s readiness for production. She noted that the milestone reflects the disciplined execution and collaboration between the OCI and Woodside teams as the project moves toward commercial start-up following handover.
Ahead of handover, the project will continue with further verification, performance testing, and operational readiness activities. OCI and Woodside remain focused on ensuring the facility transitions safely and efficiently into full operations in compliance with all regulatory and contractual requirements.
With a production capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per annum, BNA is designed to support rising demand for ammonia, lower-carbon ammonia, and hydrogen-adjacent products. Once fully operational, the facility has the potential to nearly double U.S. ammonia exports, contributing to regional economic growth and strengthening America’s energy leadership.
