Axpo Italia, a leader in renewable energy, has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tenaris. Through this deal, Axpo will provide 15 GWh of certified green energy annually to Tenaris’s Dalmine plant, a seamless steel pipe manufacturing facility in Italy.
This contract represents another important step in our transition towards more sustainable production. By sourcing green energy, we are further integrating low-impact environmental solutions into our processes and contributing to a reduced carbon footprint, said Michele Della Briotta, President of Tenaris in Europe.
Simone Demarchi, CEO of Axpo Italia, added, Tenaris’s long-term commitment reflects a conscious corporate sustainability vision. It also plays a key role in fostering new renewable energy projects in Italy.
As part of its 2030 decarbonization strategy, Tenaris continues to explore emission-reducing alternatives across its global manufacturing operations. The agreement with Axpo aligns with other initiatives in Italy, including a partnership with Snam and Tenova on an electrolyzer project for on-site hydrogen production, and the ReMFra research project, co-funded by the European Commission, which focuses on recovering steel production waste for reuse. Additionally, two solar parks are under construction in Italy and are expected to be operational soon.
Globally, Tenaris is also advancing other sustainability projects, such as the installation of an electric arc furnace with Consteel® technology at the Siderca plant, wind farms in Argentina, an electric induction coil at the TuboCaribe facility in Colombia, and solar energy initiatives in China and Romania.
