Daimler Buses Italia, the Italian branch of Daimler Buses, is set to deliver a total of 110 all-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro low-floor city buses to Autoservizi Troiani S.r.l. by mid-2026. The first ten buses from this order are already in service on public transport routes in the eastern areas of Rome, including Grotte Celoni, Ponte Mammolo, Pantano, Rebibbia, Torre Maura, and Esposizione Universale di Roma, along with nearby districts. These buses reflect Autoservizi Troiani’s dedication to eco-friendly transportation, passenger comfort, and service quality.
In early 2024, the company began its transition to full electric mobility in Rome’s suburbs with the purchase of 40 Mercedes-Benz Citaro hybrid buses, marking the start of its plan to convert its entire local transport fleet to electric vehicles.
A Greener, Emission-Free Future for Rome
Of the 110 new eCitaro buses, 65 will be powered by NMC3 batteries, offering a range of up to 280 kilometers on a single charge. The remaining 45 units will feature next-generation NMC4 batteries. These 12-meter-long electric buses are easily recognizable with their white lettering on a dark red background—the signature colors of Rome Municipality.
The eCitaro buses meet the EU’s updated General Safety Regulation (GSR-B) standards and come equipped with advanced safety systems, powerful air-conditioning, and high-performance particulate filters with antiviral functionality to reduce infection risks. Passengers will also benefit from roll and pitch control for added comfort during their journey.
Each three-door electric bus can accommodate up to 73 passengers, with 26 seats and space for 47 standing passengers. The interior includes comfortable Mercedes-Benz City Star Eco seating, a manual folding ramp for easy access for those with limited mobility or parents with strollers, and a dedicated area for wheelchair users to ensure safe transportation.
