A recent study conducted by the Alliance for Period Supplies (APS) revealed that one in three women face challenges in affording period products, a situation that has only worsened since 2018. Shockingly, over a third (38%) of low-income women admit to missing work, school, or important events due to insufficient access to period supplies. In response, Kimberly-Clark’s U by Kotex® and Thinx® brands have partnered with Walgreens to combat period poverty and shed light on the increasing demand for accessible period care products.
Until June 30, 2024, for every U by Kotex or Thinx product purchased either in-store or online at Walgreens, two period products will be donated to the Alliance for Period Supplies. This organization, a part of the National Diaper Bank Network, collaborates with over 125 independent nonprofit member organizations nationwide to distribute period products to schools, youth camps, shelters, and other community groups, supporting those in need.
Nicole Pawlukowsky, vice president of U by Kotex and Thinx, emphasized Kimberly-Clark’s century-long dedication to menstrual hygiene, marking their commitment to combatting period poverty alongside key retail partners like Walgreens. Together, they aim to empower women through advocacy and accessible solutions.
Since its inception in 2018, U by Kotex® has been the founding sponsor of the Alliance for Period Supplies. This initiative, in collaboration with supportive retail partners like Walgreens, has already distributed over 50 million U by Kotex period products.
Asha Saujani, Walgreens® Category Manager for Health & Wellness, stressed the importance of addressing the prevalent issue of period poverty in the United States. Walgreens and Kimberly-Clark are proud to unite in support of the Alliance for Period Supplies, working to raise awareness and provide essential products to those in need.
