Albany International Corp. announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed Merle Stein as President of the Machine Clothing business segment, effective September 1, 2024. Stein will succeed Daniel Halftermeyer, who is stepping down to focus on integrating the Heimbach acquisition and ensuring a smooth transition to Stein.
Stein, 47, brings extensive experience in the paper and pulp industries and a deep understanding of the Machine Clothing sector and its markets. He has demonstrated strong leadership skills, particularly in operational and customer-facing roles. Since April 2024, Stein has served as Division Chief Operating Officer, overseeing all aspects of the business, including Sales & Marketing, Operations, Procurement, and Human Resources. His previous roles include Vice President of Sales & Marketing/Applications for the Americas, and several other leadership positions in sales and marketing since joining the Company in 2011. Before Albany International, Stein managed papermaking operations at Essity’s greenfield papermill in Alabama, advancing from process engineer to Papermill Manager. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and an MBA, both from Auburn University.
Gunnar Kleveland, Company President and CEO, expressed his confidence in Stein’s new role: “I am pleased to welcome Merle to our senior leadership team as President of Machine Clothing. His extensive industry experience and in-depth knowledge of our business and customers will be invaluable as we continue to lead the industry and pursue our strategic goals.” Kleveland also acknowledged Halftermeyer’s 37 years of dedicated service and ongoing support during the transition, stating, “I am confident that Daniel will continue to contribute to the Heimbach integration plan while supporting Merle through this transition.
