AIHA, the association dedicated to promoting occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS), is launching two key initiatives to support the OEHS profession in developing countries. The first initiative involves a partnership with the Occupational Hygiene Training Association (OHTA), Workplace Health Without Borders-U.S. Chapter (WHWB-US), and the Board of Global EHS Credentialing (BGC). This collaboration aims to assist qualified OEHS technologists in developing nations by providing access to training and resources.
The second initiative features a delegation to Vietnam, led by AIHA President Nicole Greeson, MS, CIH. This visit will allow AIHA members to connect with local counterparts and explore facilities, fostering international collaboration. Both initiatives align with AIHA’s vision of ensuring health and safety for all workers and their communities.
OHTA, a global not-for-profit, focuses on delivering consistent training in occupational hygiene and safety. Their certified trainers work in both underserved and developed areas, offering courses that lead to the ICertOHTA certification. Holders of this certificate from developing countries with relevant degrees and work experience can apply for the CIH credential. Through the partnership, AIHA will provide these individuals with discounted access to the CIH Exam Crash Course.
WHWB-US will also contribute by offering mentorship for ICertOHTA holders pursuing CIH certification, promoting effective workplace hazard control in underserved communities.
“This strategic partnership empowers us to make a significant difference globally, one industrial hygienist at a time,” said OHTA Co-Chair Chris Laszcz-Davis.
WHWB-US President Albert J. Tien, ScD, emphasized the creation of an affordable pathway for world-class training and mentoring for aspiring CIH professionals.
The AIHA delegation to Vietnam is scheduled to arrive in Hanoi on October 26, 2024, and depart from Ho Chi Minh City on November 1. Delegates will engage with Vietnamese counterparts on topics including worker health and safety standards, OEHS education and certification, and advancements in technology related to Vietnam’s semiconductor industry. A preliminary schedule of their activities is available for review.
Guided by Cultural Vistas’ Citizen Ambassador Program, the delegation aims to strengthen connections between U.S. and international OEHS leaders.
“Our delegation will build on the legacy of leadership and collaboration between the U.S. and our international partners,” stated Nicole Greeson.
AIHA is also offering discounted membership fees and digital resources to OEHS professionals in developing nations. For more information on international membership rates, contact AIHA at [email protected]. Details about discounts on reference books can be found in the linked PDF.
