Eaton Names Shawn Black President of Aerospace to Lead Global Growth and Innovation

Intelligent power management company Eaton has announced the appointment of Shawn Black as president of its Aerospace business, effective August 17, 2026. In his new role, Black will oversee Eaton’s global Aerospace Group and lead the company’s efforts to strengthen its position across commercial and military aviation markets.

Black will report directly to Pete Denk, president and chief operating officer of Eaton’s Industrial Sector. His appointment comes as the aerospace industry continues to experience strong demand for advanced aircraft systems, efficient power management technologies and reliable components designed to support the next generation of commercial and defense platforms.

With more than two decades of leadership experience across the aerospace and defense sectors, Black brings a combination of operational, strategic and commercial expertise to Eaton. His career has included senior positions spanning program management, business development, strategy, operations and executive leadership.

Experienced Aerospace and Defense Leader

Before joining Eaton, Black served as president of Defense at GKN Aerospace, where he was responsible for leading a global business supporting major defense platforms and customers. His work in this role involved managing complex aerospace operations while supporting the requirements of defense customers and programs.

Prior to GKN Aerospace, Black served as president and chief executive officer of Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions. During his tenure, he gained extensive experience leading an advanced technology business serving demanding aerospace and defense applications.

Black also spent nearly 16 years with DRS Technologies, where he held several leadership positions. Among his roles was vice president and general manager of Electro Optical and Infrared Systems, giving him additional experience in technologies supporting military and aerospace applications.

His professional career began with service as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. That military background, combined with decades of corporate leadership experience, has provided Black with a broad understanding of both customer requirements and the operational challenges facing aerospace and defense companies.

Eaton Strengthens Aerospace Leadership

Eaton said Black’s track record of improving operations, growing businesses and developing customer relationships made him well suited to lead its Aerospace Group.

“Shawn has a demonstrated track record of delivering results by strengthening operations, growing businesses and building trusted relationships with customers,” said Denk. “His deep aerospace and defense experience, combined with his ability to lead global teams through growth and transformation, positions him well to lead our Aerospace Group into our next phase of growth and innovation.”

The appointment places an experienced aerospace executive at the helm of one of Eaton’s important technology businesses. As aerospace manufacturers and operators increasingly seek more efficient, reliable and digitally enabled systems, suppliers are under pressure to develop technologies that can meet demanding performance, safety and sustainability requirements.

Black’s experience across aerospace and defense is expected to support Eaton as the company continues developing solutions for these evolving markets.

Broad Aerospace Technology Portfolio

Eaton has established itself as a major supplier of systems and components used across the aerospace sector. Its Aerospace business provides technologies covering hydraulic systems, fuel management, oxygen systems, fluid and air conveyance, electrical systems, motion control and engine applications.

The company also provides aftermarket services and support for commercial and military aircraft.

These technologies play important roles in aircraft performance, safety and efficiency. As aircraft manufacturers pursue improvements in fuel efficiency and overall operating performance, suppliers such as Eaton are developing increasingly sophisticated systems capable of supporting those goals.

The aerospace sector is also undergoing significant technological change. Aircraft platforms are becoming more electrically intensive, while manufacturers are looking for ways to reduce weight, improve reliability and increase energy efficiency. Advanced power management and electrical technologies are therefore becoming increasingly important across the industry.

Eaton’s expertise in intelligent power management provides a foundation for addressing these trends.

Supporting Commercial and Military Aviation

Eaton’s Aerospace Group serves both commercial and military aviation markets, giving the business exposure to a broad range of customers and applications.

Commercial aviation continues to require reliable aircraft systems capable of supporting passenger and cargo operations around the world. At the same time, defense customers require highly durable and technologically advanced systems capable of operating in demanding environments.

Black’s background across both segments provides relevant experience as Eaton works to serve these diverse requirements.

His previous leadership roles have involved working with major aerospace and defense customers and overseeing global operations. This experience could help Eaton strengthen customer relationships while identifying opportunities to expand its aerospace business.

The company’s aerospace portfolio also spans multiple aircraft systems, allowing it to participate in a range of programs rather than focusing on a single technology or platform.

Focus on Growth and Transformation

Black’s appointment comes at a time when aerospace companies are navigating several major industry trends, including electrification, digitalization, sustainability and increasing demand for advanced aircraft technologies.

Eaton has identified electrification and digitalization as important global growth trends for its broader business. These trends are particularly relevant to aerospace, where electrical power is becoming increasingly important in aircraft design.

As aircraft systems become more electrically powered, manufacturers and suppliers must develop technologies capable of efficiently managing, distributing and controlling electrical energy. Eaton’s expertise in intelligent power management positions the company to participate in this transition.

At the same time, aerospace manufacturers are seeking solutions that can improve aircraft efficiency while maintaining stringent safety and reliability standards.

Black’s operational and strategic background could help Eaton navigate these challenges as the company seeks to expand its aerospace business.

Education and Professional Background

Black holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Penn State University and a Master of Business Administration from Boston University.

His technical education, combined with his business leadership experience, gives him a multidisciplinary background relevant to managing a complex aerospace organization.

The combination of engineering knowledge, military experience and executive leadership has characterized much of Black’s career. His experience includes managing global organizations, developing business strategies and supporting customers across aerospace and defense markets.

As president of Eaton Aerospace, he will be responsible for bringing these experiences together to lead the company’s global team and support the next phase of business development.

Eaton’s Broader Power Management Strategy

Eaton describes itself as an intelligent power management company focused on protecting the environment and improving quality of life. Its products serve a wide variety of markets, including data centers, utilities, industrial operations, commercial and institutional facilities, machine building, residential applications, aerospace and mobility.

The company’s broader strategy is centered on helping customers manage power more effectively while addressing the increasing demand for electrification and digitalization.

These trends are reshaping industries around the world. Data centers, industrial facilities, transportation systems and aircraft are all becoming more dependent on reliable electrical power and sophisticated power management technologies.

For Eaton, the aerospace business represents an important part of this broader strategy. Its systems help aircraft manage critical functions involving electrical power, fluids, air, fuel and motion.

The company’s ability to combine these technologies gives it an opportunity to support customers as aerospace platforms evolve.

Global Scale and Long-Term Evolution

Founded in 1911, Eaton has evolved for more than a century as technology and customer requirements have changed. The company reported revenues of $27.4 billion in 2025 and serves customers in approximately 180 countries.

Its global scale provides a significant platform for the Aerospace Group as it works with aircraft manufacturers, defense organizations, suppliers and aftermarket customers.

The appointment of Black is expected to strengthen the leadership of this global operation at a time when the aerospace industry is experiencing continued technological transformation.

With his extensive experience in aerospace and defense, Black is positioned to lead Eaton Aerospace through a period of growth while focusing on operational performance, customer relationships and innovation.

His immediate responsibility will be to oversee the global Aerospace Group and build on Eaton’s existing technology portfolio. Longer term, his leadership will be important as Eaton seeks to capture opportunities created by electrification, digitalization and the growing demand for advanced aircraft systems.

The appointment therefore represents more than a leadership transition. It reflects Eaton’s continued commitment to aerospace as a strategic market and its focus on combining engineering expertise, intelligent power management and global manufacturing capabilities to meet the changing needs of the aviation industry.
