Hyliion Acquires M Line Systems from Colibrium to Scale KARNO Generator Production

Hyliion Holdings Corp. a leader in sustainable energy technology, has officially received its first M Line additive manufacturing system from Colibrium Additive, a subsidiary of GE Aerospace. This system will support the production of Hyliion’s groundbreaking KARNO™ generator technology. The installation marks the debut of an M Line system in the United States. In Colibrium addition, Hyliion has placed orders for multiple additional M Line machines, with deliveries expected to continue throughout 2025.

The M Line additive manufacturing system is a key component in Hyliion’s strategy to scale up production. Compared to the company’s current printers, the M Line system enables the production of two to four times as many parts per machine, greatly improving efficiency and output. The increased productivity is essential for the KARNO generator, whose performance depends on the highly intricate and complex geometries of its critical components. These advanced Colibrium geometries can only be achieved through additive manufacturing, providing Hyliion with a significant advantage in terms of both functionality and production efficiency.

“We are proud to support Hyliion with our M Line technology,” said Chris Schuppe, Chief Technology Officer of Colibrium Additive. “Our M Line systems feature a modular design that separates the Laser Processing and Material Handling systems. This design enables streamlined operations, reduced production times, and optimized manufacturing processes. These advantages make the M Line the perfect fit for producing the KARNO generator’s complex components in full-scale production.”

The KARNO generator is designed to generate electricity efficiently using one of more than 20 different fuel sources. By utilizing advanced thermal and power systems engineering, the generator delivers both AC and DC power on demand. The KARNO generator is not only highly efficient but also features a cleaner emissions footprint compared to conventional generators, positioning it as a next-generation solution for low-emission energy generation. The ability to use various fuel sources allows for greater flexibility in power generation, making the KARNO generator a versatile and sustainable option for a variety of industries.

“The M Line systems represent a pivotal advancement in Hyliion’s journey to scale manufacturing and meet the growing demand for our KARNO generators,” said Thomas Healy, Founder and CEO of Hyliion. “Incorporating this cutting-edge technology into our production process significantly enhances our capacity to deliver our innovative generators in 2025 and beyond. This technology will play a crucial role in allowing us to meet both the increasing market demand and our sustainability goals.”

With the integration of the M Line additive manufacturing system, Hyliion is well-positioned to meet the projected demand for its KARNO generators, which are expected to gain traction in multiple sectors. The combination of increased production capacity and the generator’s unique design features positions Hyliion to make a substantial impact in the sustainable energy sector. The ability to produce complex components with additive manufacturing allows Hyliion to push the boundaries of innovation while optimizing the efficiency and performance of its products.

As the world increasingly looks for cleaner and more efficient energy solutions, Hyliion’s KARNO generators offer a promising alternative to traditional power generation systems. The system’s use of multiple fuel sources and its low-emission design make it a compelling option for industries looking to reduce their environmental impact while maintaining high power output. The continued development and scaling of production with the M Line system will be instrumental in bringing these innovative solutions to market.

With the first M Line system now in operation, Hyliion is set to ramp up production and move closer to meeting the growing demand for sustainable power solutions. As more M Line systems are delivered in the coming months, Hyliion will continue to Colibrium refine and scale its manufacturing processes, ensuring that its Colibrium KARNO generators can be produced at the scale needed to support the transition to cleaner, more efficient energy systems worldwide. The company’s commitment to advancing technology and scaling production will be crucial as it seeks to lead the way in sustainable power generation in the years ahead.

The collaboration between Hyliion and Colibrium Additive highlights the importance of advanced manufacturing technology in driving innovation. With the M Line system, Hyliion is equipped to meet the increasing demands of the energy market while pushing the envelope in terms of both product performance and manufacturing efficiency. As the company expands its capabilities, it is well-positioned to play a significant role in the global shift toward sustainable energy solutions.

As 2025 approaches, Hyliion’s KARNO generators will be at the forefront of the low-emission power generation market, helping industries transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy options. With the added efficiency and scalability of the M Line additive Colibrium manufacturing system, Hyliion is not only enhancing its production capacity but also reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation. The synergy between cutting-edge manufacturing and advanced power systems engineering sets the stage for the KARNO generator to become a key player in the future of energy generation.
