Geely Auto, a leading global mobility technology company, has announced a strategic partnership with five prominent Indonesian dealership groups. This collaboration signifies a pivotal step in Geely’s efforts to establish a stronger foothold in Southeast Asia, a region with immense automotive potential. The partnership is not just a business expansion but also a demonstration of Geely’s commitment to global growth and the electrification of mobility solutions.
A Celebratory Partnership Ceremony
The partnership was formalized in a grand ceremony attended by several key figures from Geely Auto and its Indonesian dealer partners. Distinguished guests included Evin Ye, Deputy Manager of Geely Auto International Corporation (GAIC); Xufeng Zhu, Executive Deputy Manager of the Finance Center at Geely Auto Group; Jianguo Zhang, HR Director of Geely Auto Group; Victor Gao, Managing Director of Geely Auto Indonesia; and representatives of the Indonesian dealers.
During the event, Evin Ye emphasized the importance of Indonesia in Geely’s global strategy, stating: Indonesia is not only a dynamic and promising market but also a critical step for Geely to expand its presence in the right-hand-drive segment. The dealer partners we’ve collaborated with are not only well-established and widely recognized, but more importantly, they have a deep understanding of Chinese automotive brands and share Geely’s vision to jointly develop the Indonesian market.
Strengthening Bonds Through Knowledge Sharing
As part of the collaboration, Geely hosted a delegation of Indonesian dealers at its global headquarters in Hangzhou, China. This visit included tours of Geely’s state-of-the-art research and development (R&D) center and the Qiantang manufacturing plant.
The dealers were introduced to the company’s cutting-edge technological advancements and strict quality control processes. A highlight of the visit was the exclusive test drive of the Geely EX5, a flagship electric SUV. This hands-on experience showcased the vehicle’s superior performance and quality, bolstering the dealers’ confidence in Geely’s innovative offerings.
Opportunities in Indonesia’s Growing EV Market
Indonesia’s automotive market is on the cusp of transformation, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) segment. In September 2024 alone, EVs accounted for 5.8% of total vehicle sales in the country. With ambitious government initiatives in place, Indonesia aims to sell 350,000 EV units annually by 2030, achieving a market share of 32%.
The government also plans to establish 25,000 public charging stations to support the widespread adoption of EVs. This forward-thinking approach creates a fertile ground for brands like Geely to contribute meaningfully to the market’s evolution.
Victor Gao, Managing Director of Geely Auto Indonesia, highlighted Geely’s strategic plans for the market, saying:
Geely will enter the Indonesian market with pure electric models and leverage our extensive, multi-brand product matrix that covers various categories and prices. Over the next three years, we plan to introduce 5-7 models, including SUVs, MPVs, and BEVs, PHEVs, and ICE vehicles, to meet the diverse needs of different market segments.
Ambitious Plans for Market Leadership
Geely’s entry into Indonesia is not a standalone venture. The company has crafted a multi-faceted strategy to cater to a wide array of customer preferences. By offering a mix of fully electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and internal combustion engine (ICE) models, Geely aims to capture various segments of the market.
This diverse product lineup will enable Geely to align with Indonesia’s electrification goals while addressing the unique needs of its consumers. The plan to introduce 5-7 new models over the next three years underscores the brand’s commitment to being a major player in the region’s automotive landscape.
A Testament to Geely’s Global Vision
Geely’s expansion into Indonesia is more than just a business move—it reflects the company’s global ambitions to revolutionize the automotive industry. By delivering high-quality, innovative, and environmentally conscious products, Geely aims to set new standards for customer satisfaction and sustainability in every market it enters.
As the Indonesian automotive sector embraces a new era of electrification, Geely’s proactive approach positions it as a key enabler of this transformation. With a blend of advanced technology, strategic partnerships, and a customer-centric philosophy, Geely is well-poised to make a lasting impact on Indonesia’s automotive market and beyond.
Through this strategic collaboration, Geely Auto not only reinforces its status as a global automotive leader but also reaffirms its commitment to shaping the future of mobility, one market at a time.
