Airbus Secures Order for 28 Helicopters from Global Medical Response for Fleet Expansion

Global Medical Response (GMR) has ordered 28 Airbus helicopters, comprising six H125s, five H130s, 14 H135s, and three H145s, to continue expanding its air medical fleet. This follows an earlier order of five Airbus helicopters in 2024, bringing GMR’s Airbus helicopter fleet to nearly 200 and cementing its status as one of North America’s largest Airbus helicopter operators.

The order includes options for GMR to purchase an additional 23 helicopters over the next three years. Notably, GMR will be among the first in North America to operate the IFR-capable H125, further enhancing their operational capabilities.

“At Global Medical Response, we understand the critical impact air ambulances have in delivering rapid, lifesaving support when it’s needed most,” said Daniel Sweeza, GMR’s National President of Air Operations. “Our investment in Airbus helicopters strengthens our ability to deliver lifesaving healthcare where it’s needed most. This expansion reflects our commitment to accessible, advanced care—ensuring we can make a difference when every second counts.”

GMR is a leader in air medical services, with nearly 36,000 employees providing compassionate, high-quality medical care across the United States and internationally. The organization operates 387 air base locations under various brands, including Air Evac Lifeteam, REACH Air Medical Services, Med-Trans Corporation, AirMed International, and Guardian Flight. Since 2021, GMR has added over 30 Airbus helicopters to its fleet.

“We are proud to continue supporting GMR as they deliver critical care to communities across the country and are pleased they have once again trusted Airbus helicopters for their missions,” said Bart Reijnen, Head of the North America Region for Airbus Helicopters. “These new helicopters will further enhance GMR’s ability to provide high-quality medical care, and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on their operations.”

Airbus, a leading provider of helicopters for the air medical transport sector, has been supporting North American helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) for over 50 years. The single-engine H125 and H130 helicopters offer best-in-class visibility and spacious cabins optimized for HEMS missions. The H125 is known for excelling in challenging hot and high environments, while the H135 and H145, equipped with Airbus’ Helionix avionics suite, facilitate seamless transitions between models, improve safety, and reduce pilot workload. Additionally, the H135 and H145 have the lowest acoustic footprints in their class, along with minimal CO2 emissions compared to their competitors.
