Mouser Electronics Launches Circuit Showdown Competition for Engineering Students

Mouser Electronics, a leader in New Product Introduction (NPI) and innovation empowerment, has announced its sponsorship of the Circuit Showdown Design Contest, produced by eeDesignIt. The competition will kick off with its first two episodes on October 8, followed by episodes on October 15 and October 22.

This exciting contest features a head-to-head design challenge among three engineering students from various universities: Charles Morales from Texas State University, Michael Vidales from Prairie View A&M University, and Renee Wrysinski from Rice University. Over four episodes, these students will tackle themed design projects, demonstrating their skills in a real-world environment.

Raymond Yin, Mouser’s Director of Technical Content, expressed the intent behind the competition: “We want to showcase these engineering students’ talents. Technical challenges can arise in even the best-planned projects, and this competition highlights their problem-solving abilities in real-time.”

Mouser’s manufacturer partners, including Arduino, Keysight Technologies, Molex, Renesas Electronics, and Vishay, will provide parts for the students’ designs. The episodes will be hosted by Bryan DeLuca and Nicolette Emmino from eeDesignIt, with judging by experts Massimo Banzi, Co-founder & Designer at Arduino; Chris Moore, CEO of FIRST®; and Kirk Ulery, Business Development Manager for Molex. Raymond Yin will also serve as a technical mentor to the contestants.

According to Rachael Weaver, Mouser’s Supplier Marketing Director, selecting the right judges was crucial: “The supplier judges are the authority on these parts, making them ideal evaluators of the contestants’ projects.”

The Grand Prize winner of the Circuit Showdown will receive $10,000, a $1,000 credit on mouser.com, and a $6,000 Keysight lab bench. The Runner Up will earn $5,000, a $500 credit on mouser.com, and a $1,500 Keysight oscilloscope. Third Place will take home a $250 credit on mouser.com and a Keysight Digital Multimeter.
