Today, Waters Corporation introduced the TA Instruments™ Discovery Core Rheometer, a streamlined and modern rheometer designed specifically for routine manufacturing quality control and assurance laboratories. This innovative instrument is capable of handling various materials, such as battery slurries, printing inks, food products, and personal care items. Featuring a user-friendly touchscreen interface, the rheometer provides self-guided training, methods, and applications, making it accessible to users of all experience levels in rheology.
The Discovery™ Core Rheometer enhances the company’s industry-leading rheology portfolio, offering superior performance at an affordable price compared to commercial viscometers and similar rheometers. It delivers up to 2x greater torque sensitivity, and its compact design requires half the bench space of traditional modular rheometers, thanks to its self-contained temperature control and integrated electronics.
“Waters has long been a leader in high-performance rheometers, delivering superior results that inspire better decision-making. With the Discovery Core Rheometer, we’re making world-class rheological testing more accessible to laboratories that need to ensure consistent product behavior and quality,” said Jianqing Bennett, Senior Vice President of the TA Instruments Division at Waters Corporation. “Specifically designed for in-line manufacturing quality control testing, this advanced rheometer will improve the assessment of battery electrode slurry batch performance, helping to enhance battery outcomes while reducing waste and production costs.”
Neil Cunningham, Founder and CEO of the Centre for Industrial Rheology, added, “Rheology profiling provides valuable material insights beyond basic viscosity measurements. With the growing importance of dynamic, oscillatory measurements and controlled stress profiling, the Discovery Core Rheometer meets a significant unmet need in the market by offering high-performance capabilities in a user-friendly package, bringing the benefits of rheology and viscosity testing to a broader audience.”
The instrument comes with the new RheoGuide™ Software user interface, designed for immediate walk-up use, offering self-guided training, pre-defined methods, on-screen alerts, and indicators for easier sample setup and faster, real-time data analysis. For consistency across labs, the Discovery Core Rheometer also shares methods and raw data formats with other Discovery Hybrid Rheometers via TA Instruments TRIOS™ Software, enabling seamless measurement and data review from research and development to production.
The Discovery Core Rheometer is available for order today, with worldwide availability expected in Q1 2025.
