Realtime Robotics’ Optimization Solution Receives Gold Merit Award for Technological Innovation in Robotics

Realtime Robotics, a leader in collision-free autonomous motion planning for industrial robots, has been awarded the Gold Winner title in the 2024 Merit Awards for Technology in the Robotics category.

The company’s Optimization solution integrates proprietary software with expert insights in robotics and application engineering, significantly enhancing manufacturers’ productivity by minimizing workcell cycle times. The solution evaluates a customer’s existing digital twin to pinpoint bottlenecks and offers recommendations for improvements without disrupting ongoing production.

“We recognized that assembly line bottlenecks were among the biggest challenges manufacturers faced, leading to increased cycle times and decreased productivity. While enhancing robot movement plans could alleviate these bottlenecks, the process was often manual and time-consuming—something many organizations couldn’t afford,” said Peter Howard, CEO of Realtime Robotics. “Our Optimization solution automates this process, quickly evaluating and testing potential robot movements and configurations to find the shortest cycle time. This award reflects our team’s dedication to developing a solution that can significantly transform manufacturing operations.”

To get started, customers simply provide Realtime with their simulation CAD file for the bottlenecked cells. The company’s engineers employ proprietary algorithms to optimize the workcell within days, generating and testing hundreds of thousands of potential robot paths, sequences, poses, end-of-arm-tool rotations, and complex robot interlocks, ultimately leading to improved cycle times. Once validated, these results can be seamlessly implemented on the production floor.

In addition to this recognition, Realtime Robotics’ Optimization solution recently won the esteemed 2024 Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Robotics & Automation (IERA) award, presented annually by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Industrial Activities Board and the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). Notable clients like Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Valiant TMS have successfully reduced robot programming time and improved cycle times through collaboration with Realtime Robotics.
