The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and its research and education arm, the ET Foundation, have announced the Call for Entries for the 2025 Student Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. Eligible participants include students from high schools, universities, trade schools, design schools, and community colleges. A total of $15,500 in scholarships will be awarded to students with the best designs, as evaluated by a panel of aluminum extrusion experts in Spring 2025. The competition is sponsored by AEC members, including ALMAG Aluminum Inc. in Brampton, Ontario; MI Metals, Inc. in Oldsmar, Florida; and Pennex Aluminum Company LLC in Wellsville, Pennsylvania. Participation is free, with the entry deadline set for March 24, 2025.
Scholarships will be given to the top designs, with $5,000 awarded for First Place, $4,000 for Second Place, and $3,000 for Third Place. Additionally, students can compete for the $3,500 Sustainable Design Challenge Scholarship, which focuses on creating extrusion-based products that address societal or environmental challenges. To win, designs must be both practical and beneficial to the environment, improving the quality of life for users.
The competition seeks to increase awareness of the benefits and versatility of aluminum extrusion among future design and engineering professionals. To participate, students must be currently enrolled in a school and design a product or system incorporating at least one extruded aluminum component. Both individual and team submissions are welcome. The official Call for Entries and entry forms are available for download at AEC.org/design-competition.
Winning entries will showcase the advantages of extruded aluminum by either inventing a new product or enhancing an existing one. Designs will be judged based on creativity, practicality, product or process improvement, and market potential.
