Oshkosh Corporation, a leader in the development of purpose-built vehicles and equipment, announced today that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially validated the company’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets. This validation confirms that Oshkosh’s targets align with the stringent criteria and recommendations established by SBTi, demonstrating the company’s commitment to integrating the latest climate science into its sustainability strategies.
With the SBTi’s endorsement, Oshkosh Corporation has set the following science-based targets:
- Near-term Goals: Aiming for a 57.7% reduction in absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2033, using 2021 as the baseline year. Additionally, the company plans to cut absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, as well as the use of sold products, by 32.5% by 2033, using 2022 as the baseline.
- Long-term Goals: Targeting a 90% reduction in absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2050 from a 2021 base year. Similarly, a 90% reduction in absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services and the use of sold products is set for 2050, based on a 2022 baseline.
“Oshkosh’s dedication to sustainability is fundamental to our operations and innovations,” stated Kevin Tubbs, vice president and chief sustainability officer of Oshkosh Corporation. “By aligning our near-term and net-zero targets with the most recent climate science, we are taking a significant step toward a more sustainable future for our employees, customers, and the communities we serve. The SBTi’s validation of our reduction targets underscores our resolve to minimize our environmental impact while consistently delivering innovative solutions that foster sustainability.”
The company’s strategy focuses on reducing energy consumption, increasing the use of renewable energy in its operations, and collaborating across the value chain to achieve substantial progress in scope 3 GHG reductions.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaborative effort among CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). This organization develops standards, tools, and guidance that help companies establish GHG emissions reduction targets in line with the necessary measures to limit global temperature rise and achieve net-zero by 2050.
