Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading provider of high-performance semiconductors, IoT systems, and cloud connectivity solutions, has announced the sampling of its next-generation GN2255S. This Tri-Edge™ 50 Gbps clock and data recovery (CDR) device, integrated with a DML driver, is designed for SFP56 50G PAM4 bidirectional (BiDi) and CWDM6 optical modules. As part of the industry’s only analog solution for 50 Gbps fronthaul, the new CDR offers simpler and potentially more energy-efficient designs. Its real-time signal processing provides ultra-low latency, critical for 5G Advanced applications like public safety, industrial control, and smart grid management.
According to the latest Ericsson Mobility Report, 5G subscriptions are expected to more than double between 2024 and 2029, with mobile data traffic projected to surpass 230 exabytes per month by 2029. The rising demand for data, alongside emerging technologies like generative AI, machine learning (ML), and augmented reality (AR), will drive the need for infrastructure upgrades. The integration of 5G Advanced technology, with its higher data transfer speeds and enhanced connectivity, will further improve network performance, intelligence, and sustainability.
“As a founding member of the Mobile Optical Pluggable Alliance (MOPA), Semtech collaborates closely with global telecom leaders and mobile operators to develop optical solutions that address industry challenges,” said Raza Khan, product marketing director for Semtech’s Signal Integrity Products Group and chief marketing officer of MOPA. “Our Tri-Edge solutions for bidirectional and CWDM optical pluggables are a direct result of these partnerships, enabling carriers to implement cost-effective, scalable infrastructure upgrades over single fiber, advancing global mobile networks.”
Stefan Dahlfort, chairman and president of MOPA, added, “Innovations in optical pluggables, like those from Semtech, are pushing the industry towards the high performance and low latency needed for global mobile networks to become the backbone of society and Industry 4.0.”
Semtech will be showcasing these innovations at ECOC 2024 in booth E37, MR21, and MR22, featuring demos of solutions for data centers, wireless, and passive optical networks (PON). Meetings are available by appointment.
