Ag-West Bio has recently made a $300,000 investment in NULIFE GreenTech, a Saskatoon-based startup that diverts waste from landfills by utilizing its patented HydroThermal Liquefaction (HTL) technology. This process transforms agricultural residues, food manufacturing waste, and sewage sludge into sustainable biocrude oil. Traditional waste disposal methods are costly, inefficient, and increasingly restricted due to landfill and land spreading bans. Additionally, the growing concern over per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as “forever chemicals,” is becoming more urgent as research reveals their negative impact on human health. NULIFE’s process is able to eliminate 95% of PFAS.
NULIFE has been chosen by Frontier, an initiative founded by Stripe, Alphabet, Shopify, Meta, and McKinsey, to participate in its 2024 prepurchase cycle. Frontier aims to speed up the development of carbon removal technologies by supporting early-stage companies like NULIFE. The focus is on technologies that offer permanent carbon storage, do not compete for arable land, and are scalable in a cost-effective manner.
Ag-West Bio’s investment will help NULIFE expand its commercial pilot operations to meet growing demand, ahead of a full-scale commercial plant expected in late 2024 or 2025.

Ag-West Bio is enthusiastic about backing the commercialization of NULIFE’s groundbreaking technology, which provides significant cost savings for wet organic waste producers while also reducing their environmental impact. NULIFE’s technology, developed in Saskatchewan, is both modular and scalable, making it ideal for processing food and dairy waste.
