A panel of commercial vehicle journalists from 24 European countries has awarded the battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 the prestigious title of “International Truck of the Year 2025.” This accolade is regarded as the industry’s most significant prize. The jury praised the truck’s innovative technological design, highlighting its advanced drive system, high energy efficiency, and impressive range of 500 kilometers without requiring intermediate charging. This performance was demonstrated during the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024,” a 15,000-kilometer all-electric journey through 22 countries, with the truck operating at a gross combination weight of 40 tons. During many stages of the tour, the truck achieved a theoretical range of over 600 kilometers without recharging, with both vehicles exclusively using public charging points along the route.
Karin Rådström, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, accepted the award at the IAA Transportation 2024 event in Hanover from Gianenrico Griffini, Chairman of the International Truck of the Year (ITotY) jury.
“Mercedes-Benz Trucks designed the eActros 600 as an electric truck from the ground up, resulting in a cutting-edge vehicle that excels in a variety of long-haul applications,” said Griffini, summarizing the jury’s rationale.
Rådström expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “We are thrilled that the jury selected our eActros 600 as the ‘International Truck of the Year 2025.’ Many jury members have already tested the truck on European roads and experienced its performance firsthand. Today is a proud moment for the teams that have worked tirelessly to make this truck a leader in the market.”
The ITotY title is awarded annually to the truck that contributes the most to road transport innovation, factoring in efficiency, emissions, safety, vehicle dynamics, and comfort. Since the award’s inception in 1977, Mercedes-Benz Trucks has won the title ten times, marking this as the first victory for a battery-electric vehicle.
Journalists participating in the eActros 600 Testing Tour also commended the truck’s advanced aerodynamics, especially the new ProCabin driver’s cab. Improved aerodynamics are crucial for battery-electric trucks, as reduced air resistance helps lower energy consumption and extends range through increased energy recuperation.
The powertrain performance, smooth acceleration, and vibration-free environment—enabled by various driving programs—also impressed the jury. Mercedes-Benz Trucks developed a new 800-volt electric axle specifically for long-haul use, featuring two electric motors and a four-speed transmission. The motors deliver a continuous output of 400 kW, with a peak output of 600 kW. Additionally, the eActros 600 incorporates Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC), an intelligent cruise and transmission control system that optimizes efficiency by considering topography, road layout, and traffic signs.
