Hyundai Motor Group has announced its debut at the World Smart City Expo 2024 (WSCE), held from September 3–5 at KINTEX, Korea. The expo, a global platform for showcasing the latest smart city technologies, policies, and solutions, will see Hyundai presenting its human-centered smart city vision.
WSCE, sponsored by Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, alongside the Ministry of Science and ICT, has been an annual event since 2017. Last year’s expo featured 320 companies from 70 countries, highlighting innovations in smart infrastructure and energy efficiency. This year’s theme, “Better Life is Here,” promises a variety of experiences and exhibitions.
Hyundai’s 900-square-meter exhibition hall will illustrate a future where technology seamlessly integrates space, mobility, and energy. The exhibit, themed “Inspiring Human Progress,” is divided into three zones: Transportation, Logistics and Robotics, and Energy and Infrastructure.
The Transportation zone features the DICE personal mobility platform, the S-A2 next-generation airframe, the SPACE-Mobility public system, and the Shucle demand-responsive service. DICE offers customized travel experiences through AI, while the S-A2, developed by Hyundai’s Supernal, is an advanced air mobility device capable of vertical takeoff and landing, set for commercialization in 2028. The SPACE-Mobility system enhances accessibility, offering customized seating and support for wheelchairs, micro-mobility devices, and pets.
In the Logistics and Robotics zone, Hyundai showcases the City Pod, a large unmanned logistics device powered by hydrogen energy, the Easy Swap modular vehicle system, and the Parking Robot, which can maneuver vehicles in tight spaces.
The Energy and Infrastructure zone features a park exhibit that embodies Hyundai’s vision of a smart city harmonizing with nature. Visitors can explore an underground space equipped with mobility, logistics, and energy infrastructure through an innovative telescope structure. An infographic stand presents a sustainable future city concept, highlighting the hydrogen value chain from production to utilization.
Hyundai also plans to develop a smart city platform connecting mobility solutions and infrastructure, aligning with its strategy of becoming a software-oriented mobility company. This platform aims to create a safer, more convenient urban environment through interconnected data.
A manifesto film will be released to communicate the core values and philosophy of Hyundai’s smart city vision. The film emphasizes a human-centered approach, portraying a future where people, not technology, take center stage, with a warm and relatable tone.
