PPG Expands Operations at Malaysian Plant to Include Non-Stick and Low Friction Coatings Production

PPG has announced an expansion of its operations in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, to include the production of non-stick coatings for kitchenware, industrial bakeware, and low friction applications. This expansion increases the plant’s capacity to meet rising regional demand for coatings and adds space for enhanced customer services, including a cutting-edge testing laboratory.

Irene Tasi, PPG Senior Vice President of Industrial Coatings, commented, “Our investment in this facility highlights our dedication to growth in the region. We are pleased to offer our Asia Pacific customers more reliable supply and additional value-added services. This expansion positions us to better meet the growing need for high-performance non-stick and low friction coatings.”

The upgraded facility now features five new production lines for both waterborne and solventborne non-stick and low-friction coatings. This dual capability allows PPG to customize solutions to a broad range of customer needs and product specifications.

The Petaling Jaya plant will focus on providing sustainably advantaged coating solutions, particularly for the energy sector. The low friction coatings offer exceptional corrosion resistance and controlled torque, crucial for oil and gas applications. Additionally, the plant will produce non-stick and decorative coatings free from PFAS for the kitchen and industrial bakeware industries.

Denise Lu, PPG General Manager of Industrial Coatings for Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China and Taiwan), added, “This expansion underscores our commitment to our growing customer base in the region and our focus on delivering sustainably advantaged solutions, especially for the kitchen and bakeware sectors.”
