The Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA), the leading advocate for Bourbon, America’s sole native spirit, has been inducted into the esteemed World Spirits Alliance (WSA) headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Established in 1880, the KDA has long been at the heart of Kentucky’s Bourbon industry, representing over 100 members. This new affiliation marks a significant milestone, as the KDA is now recognized as a global leader in the Bourbon sector, benefiting from enhanced industry collaboration and visibility among international spirits authorities.
The WSA serves as a global trade association, representing the spirits industry on major international platforms such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations (UN). It provides a collaborative space for member producers and trade groups to share best practices and address global issues related to trade and regulatory policies.
Helen Medina, CEO of the WSA, expressed enthusiasm about the KDA’s inclusion: “We are thrilled to welcome the Kentucky Distillers’ Association into the World Spirits Alliance. The global spirits industry is a significant economic force, contributing US$730 billion to the world’s GDP in 2022 and supporting 36 million jobs worldwide. The KDA’s historic achievements and commitment to sustainable practices are invaluable, and together, we can drive meaningful progress in promoting responsible growth and a unified vision for the industry.”
Eric Gregory, President of the KDA, is excited about the new opportunities: “With Kentucky Bourbon’s economy stronger than ever, our inclusion in the WSA allows us to amplify our global impact. As the world’s foremost voice for Bourbon, we are eager to continue sharing our successes in tourism, innovation, and economic growth while learning from other industry leaders.”
Jessica Pendergrass, Chair of the KDA Board of Directors and General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer at Heaven Hill, also expressed pride in the development: “The KDA is honored to join our peers in the World Spirits Alliance. This partnership will help us share the rich history of Kentucky Bourbon and collaborate on navigating future challenges and opportunities.”
