Origin Materials and Reed City Group have announced a strategic partnership to mass-produce PET caps and closures in North America. At Reed City Group’s Michigan facilities, they will set up commercial manufacturing lines to produce caps from both virgin and recycled PET using advanced equipment and automation. These caps will be among the first commercially viable PET closures on the market.
John Bissell, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Origin, stated, “We plan to start mass production of PET caps for North America later this year. We are excited to work with the Reed City Group team, which includes over 200 skilled professionals with expertise in tool making and clean room manufacturing.”
Bissell also noted that this partnership complements Origin’s existing European production capabilities, enhancing their PET cap manufacturing network.
Reed City Group CEO, Guy Boitos, said, “Our commitment to innovation makes this collaboration with Origin a perfect match. We are excited about this transformative project and our future together.”
Origin’s PET caps offer significant advancements in packaging by improving recyclability, supporting cap tethering, enabling lighter packaging, and extending shelf life, addressing a market worth over $65 billion. These innovations align with Origin’s mission to drive the transition to sustainable materials.
Origin’s PCO 1881-compatible caps, made from virgin or recycled PET, will be available starting in Q4 2024, with additional types, including tethered caps, to follow. For more details on Origin’s PET caps and closures, visit their website or contact [email protected].
