Maritime Launch Services applauds the Government of Canada for finalizing the Technology Safeguard Agreement (TSA) with the United States, marking a significant advancement for the Canadian space industry. This treaty sets a new standard for security and collaboration in space technology, focusing on protecting sensitive technologies and intellectual property such as launch vehicles and satellites. The TSA not only reinforces the strategic partnership between Canada and the U.S. but also opens up new growth opportunities for Canada’s commercial space sector by enabling U.S. technology to be launched from Canadian soil.
Maritime Launch is developing Spaceport Nova Scotia, Canada’s premier commercial spaceport, located near Canso, Nova Scotia. Following a successful suborbital launch in 2023, the company is preparing for its first orbital launch in early 2026.
Stephen Matier, President and CEO of Maritime Launch Services, remarks, “This agreement is a crucial step for Canada’s commercial space industry. As we complete the construction of Spaceport Nova Scotia, we are committed to meeting compliance requirements and addressing the needs of our U.S. clients. We eagerly anticipate welcoming American clients to Nova Scotia and preparing for Canada’s inaugural orbital launch in 2026.”
The TSA will significantly impact Canada’s commercial space industry, facilitating active participation in global space initiatives and boosting economic growth. Mike Kelloway, Member of Parliament for Cape Breton—Canso, highlights the region’s progress: Cape Breton—Canso is at the forefront of emerging industries, and today we move closer to commercial spaceflight. We are proud to host Canada’s first commercial spaceport and announce this agreement with the U.S., expanding our nation’s capabilities in this sector.
Since its inception in 2016, Maritime Launch’s mission has been to provide reliable, cost-effective space access for commercial and international government clients. With the TSA in place, the company is well-positioned to attract international partners, advance space technology, and generate significant foreign investment and economic benefits for Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada.
François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, states, Today’s announcement is a major milestone for Canada’s space sector, enhancing its diversity and global competitiveness. This development strengthens Canada’s position as a leader in space exploration and technology.
Maritime Launch is excited to leverage the TSA opportunities and strengthen its collaboration with the U.S., aiming to drive progress and position Canada as a global leader in space exploration. Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities and Member of Parliament for Central Nova, adds, Maritime Launch’s achievements are an inspiration. This step forward will bring new economic opportunities, create jobs, support national security, and foster innovation and research.
