14 eCitaro G Buses for Ulm & Neu-Ulm’s Green Transit

After a competitive selection process, 14 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G electric buses have been chosen for the cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm. On July 1, 2024, the first two buses were delivered in a ceremony attended by Ulm’s Mayor Martin Ansbacher, Neu-Ulm’s Mayor Johannes Stingl, SWU Managing Director Klaus Eder, SWU Transport Managing Director Ralf Gummersbach, and Daimler Buses CEO Till Oberwörder. Six more buses will arrive in autumn 2024, with the remaining six expected next year.

State-of-the-Art Features

These articulated buses feature advanced NMC3 batteries, offering nearly 50% more energy density and a minimum range of 150 kilometers. The 18.3-meter buses, equipped with five NMC3 battery packs totaling 490 kWh, can be charged at depots or via a pantograph on the roof, which allows for opportunity charging along routes.

Enhanced Safety Systems

The buses are fitted with the latest safety systems from Daimler Buses, including Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Preventive Brake Assist 2, and Traffic Sign Assist. These systems help protect up to 143 passengers and other road users by providing enhanced safety measures and real-time feedback on traffic conditions.

Commitment to Green Mobility

With these new eCitaro G buses, SWU Verkehr GmbH is enhancing its commitment to climate-friendly transportation. Founded on May 11, 1999, SWU Verkehr transports over 39 million passengers annually across 4.5 million kilometers in Ulm and Neu-Ulm, employing around 320 people.
