The Ministry of Defense of Honduras has expanded its fleet with the acquisition of two additional Airbus H145 helicopters. These helicopters will be utilized by the Honduran Air Force for various critical operations including passenger and cargo transport, search and rescue missions, firefighting, medical evacuations, and other essential tasks within the region. This procurement follows a previous order made in April 2023 for two H145s, scheduled for delivery by the end of 2024.
José Manuel Zelaya, the Minister of Defense of Honduras, emphasized the significance of these acquisitions in meeting the country’s demand for modern, multi-functional helicopters over the next three decades. Honduras, frequently impacted by hurricanes, natural disasters, and fires, will benefit from having a fleet of six H145s, reassuring the population of the Armed Forces’ preparedness to safeguard and assist during such emergencies.
Alberto Robles, Head of Airbus Helicopters in Latin America, expressed pride in the collaboration with Honduras and the pivotal role the H145s will play in protecting the Honduran people. With its proven versatility, excellent availability, and performance, the H145 is well-suited to the climatic and geographic conditions of the region.
The H145’s five-bladed version offers enhanced capabilities, including an additional 150kg of useful load and improved comfort for passengers and crews. Its exceptional performance, particularly in challenging conditions, makes it an ideal choice for firefighting missions. Furthermore, its compact fuselage enables operation and landing in confined spaces, adding value to its versatility.
With over 1,600 H145 family helicopters in service globally, accumulating more than 7.5 million flight hours, and over 120 currently operating in Latin America, the H145 has established itself as a reliable platform. Its high flight availability and all-weather capability ensure rapid response in emergencies, with the ability to be airborne within minutes.
The acquisition of these H145 helicopters marks another significant step in Honduras’ defense capabilities, enhancing its ability to respond effectively to a wide range of challenges and emergencies.
