Volvo Group Reports Strong Third-Quarter 2026 Results with Higher Sales, Improved Profitability and Strong Cash Flow
Organic Sales Growth and Higher Operating Income Mark Third Quarter
Volvo Group reported continued positive business performance in the third quarter of 2026, achieving higher net sales, improved profitability, and stronger cash flow in its Industrial Operations. The Group recorded net sales of SEK 119.5 billion, representing an increase of 8% compared with the corresponding period in 2025. Organic sales growth reached 7%, reflecting increased vehicle sales and continued growth in service-related revenue.
Adjusted operating income rose to SEK 14.7 billion from SEK 11.7 billion in the third quarter of the previous year. The adjusted operating margin improved to 12.3%, compared with 10.6% in Q3 2025. These results reflect the Group’s focus on operational execution, customer support, and profitability across its business activities.
Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of Volvo Group, highlighted the company’s performance during the quarter.
“The positive development in the Volvo Group’s performance continued in Q3. We delivered net sales of SEK 119.5 billion, with an organic sales growth of 7%. Vehicle sales increased by 8% and service sales grew by 5% organically. We maintained good profitability, with adjusted operating income of SEK 14.7 billion (11.7) and an adjusted operating margin of 12.3% (10.6), supported by dedicated work across the Group. Operating cash flow in the Industrial Operations improved to SEK 7.2 billion,” Lundstedt said.
The results demonstrate growth across vehicle and service sales, alongside improvements in operating earnings and cash generation. The Group’s financial performance also benefited from favorable currency movements compared with the same period last year.
Net Sales Increase to SEK 119.5 Billion
Volvo Group’s net sales amounted to SEK 119.5 billion in the third quarter of 2026, up from SEK 110.7 billion in Q3 2025. The 8% increase in reported sales was accompanied by organic sales growth of 7%, indicating that the improvement extended beyond the effects of currency movements and other reporting-related factors.
Vehicle sales increased by 8% organically, making a significant contribution to the Group’s overall sales development. Service sales also performed positively, growing by 5% organically compared with the year-earlier period.
The growth in vehicle sales reflects the importance of Volvo Group’s equipment and vehicle businesses to its overall financial performance. Meanwhile, the increase in service revenue highlights the continuing contribution of customer support and aftermarket activities to the Group’s business.
Service offerings can play an important role in maintaining customer relationships throughout the operating life of vehicles and equipment. Maintenance, repairs, parts availability, and other support activities help customers keep their fleets operational and manage equipment performance. Organic service sales growth therefore represents a meaningful component of the Group’s broader revenue development.
The combination of vehicle and service sales growth helped Volvo Group deliver higher net sales during the quarter. Together, these areas supported the company’s ability to expand revenue while maintaining a strong adjusted operating margin.
Adjusted Operating Income Rises to SEK 14.7 Billion
Volvo Group reported adjusted operating income of SEK 14,693 million in Q3 2026, compared with SEK 11,707 million in the third quarter of 2025. This represents an increase of approximately 25% year over year.
The adjusted operating margin improved to 12.3%, up from 10.6% in the corresponding period last year. The higher margin indicates that the Group generated more adjusted operating income relative to its sales.
Adjusted operating income excludes certain items specified by the company to provide a view of operating performance before those items. In the third quarter of 2026, SEK 339 million in costs were excluded from adjusted operating income. In Q3 2025, the company excluded a positive effect of SEK 811 million.
These adjustments are important when comparing the Group’s underlying operating performance between reporting periods because the nature and direction of excluded items can differ. The reported adjusted figures show that Volvo Group increased operating income and improved its adjusted margin despite the presence of excluded costs during the latest quarter.
The company attributed its performance to dedicated work across the Group. Maintaining profitability while increasing sales requires coordination across manufacturing, commercial operations, supply chains, and customer services. Volvo Group’s results reflect the combined contribution of these activities to its overall operating performance.
Reported Operating Income and Margin Improve
Reported operating income reached SEK 14,354 million in the third quarter of 2026, compared with SEK 12,517 million in Q3 2025.
The reported operating margin increased to 12.0%, up from 11.3% a year earlier. This improvement demonstrates that the Group’s reported operating earnings also increased, although the reported figures reflect the effects of items excluded from adjusted operating income.
Currency movements had a positive impact on operating income of SEK 970 million compared with the third quarter of 2025. Exchange-rate movements can influence the reported results of international companies such as Volvo Group, which conducts business across multiple markets and currencies.
The favorable currency effect contributed to the year-over-year improvement in operating income. However, the increase in organic sales and the improvement in adjusted profitability also demonstrate the importance of business performance beyond currency-related factors.
Taken together, the adjusted and reported operating figures show that Volvo Group generated higher earnings during the quarter and maintained a double-digit operating margin.
Earnings Per Share Increases to SEK 5.29
Volvo Group’s earnings per share amounted to SEK 5.29 in Q3 2026, compared with SEK 3.71 in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
The increase reflects the Group’s improved earnings performance during the period. Earnings per share is an important financial measure for shareholders because it indicates the amount of earnings attributable to each share, based on the company’s applicable reporting calculations.
The increase in earnings per share occurred alongside higher net sales, stronger adjusted operating income, and improved operating margins. These developments provide a broader picture of the Group’s financial performance during the third quarter.
While earnings per share is influenced by several factors, including operating performance, financing costs, taxes, and the number of shares outstanding, the reported year-over-year increase aligns with the improvement in Volvo Group’s operating results.
Industrial Operations Deliver Stronger Operating Cash Flow
One of the quarter’s most notable developments was the improvement in operating cash flow from Volvo Group’s Industrial Operations.
Operating cash flow reached SEK 7,195 million in Q3 2026, compared with negative SEK 1,739 million in the same period of 2025. The year-over-year improvement amounted to approximately SEK 8.9 billion.
Cash flow is an important measure of a company’s ability to generate cash through its operations. It helps demonstrate how effectively the business converts its activities into funds that can support investment, working-capital requirements, and other corporate priorities.
The improvement in Industrial Operations cash flow represents a significant change from the negative figure reported a year earlier. Stronger cash generation can provide additional financial flexibility, although cash flow performance may vary between quarters depending on factors such as working capital, deliveries, and payment timing.
The reported figure reinforces the positive developments in Volvo Group’s third-quarter results, with higher sales and improved profitability accompanied by stronger cash generation.
Return on Capital Employed Reaches 27.5%
Volvo Group’s return on capital employed in Industrial Operations increased to 27.5% in Q3 2026, compared with 25.2% in Q3 2025.
Return on capital employed measures how effectively a company generates operating returns from the capital invested in its business. A higher percentage indicates an improvement in the relationship between operating returns and the capital employed, subject to the company’s calculation methodology.
The increase to 27.5% shows that Volvo Group improved this measure of capital efficiency compared with the year-earlier period. Combined with higher adjusted operating income and stronger cash flow, the result provides additional insight into the performance of its Industrial Operations.
Capital efficiency remains important for industrial companies that require substantial investment in manufacturing facilities, product development, distribution networks, and customer support. Maintaining attractive returns on invested capital can help businesses balance growth ambitions with financial discipline.
Volvo Group’s third-quarter 2026 results reflect continued growth in sales, stronger operating earnings, improved margins, and a substantial recovery in Industrial Operations cash flow compared with the same period last year.
Net sales increased to SEK 119.5 billion, organic sales grew by 7%, and adjusted operating income rose to SEK 14.7 billion. The adjusted operating margin reached 12.3%, while earnings per share increased to SEK 5.29. Industrial Operations also recorded operating cash flow of SEK 7.2 billion and a return on capital employed of 27.5%.
The company’s performance was supported by growth in both vehicle and service sales, continued operational execution, and a positive currency impact on operating income. Together, these results demonstrate Volvo Group’s ability to increase revenue while maintaining profitability and improving cash generation during the quarter.
As the Group continues its operations across vehicle, equipment, and service markets, its focus on customer support, operational performance, and capital efficiency remains central to its financial development. The third-quarter results provide evidence of progress across several important financial measures, positioning the company to build on its performance while continuing to manage the demands of its global industrial businesses.
