Combining research and development, planning, testing, industrialization, production, and repair in a single value chain and supporting railway electronics from product definition through the entire life cycle: This is the model Elemaster is presenting at InnoTrans 2026. The group employs around 2,000 people in eight countries and specializes in complex electronic and mechatronic solutions.
“With the Repair Centre, we have also integrated the areas of analysis, repair and refurbishment into the group, thus completing a process that begins with development and extends to the operational phase of the product.”
Through the acquisition of CR&C in 2026, Elemaster integrated expertise that forms the group’s Repair Centre . This expands the value chain to include testing, fault analysis, repair, and refurbishment. More than 25,000 units are processed for repair annually. The portfolio encompasses several thousand assembly and device types; hardware, software, and test benches can be developed or adapted as needed.
These competencies complement research and development, hardware and software development, and testing at the Italian site Eletech near Milan and the German site in Ulm . They also include printed circuit board manufacturing, electronics assembly and installation, system integration, and the production of complete devices.
Railways & Transport is one of the Group’s most important business areas, generating 28.2 percent of total revenue in 2025 with sales on five continents . The rail sector has long been one of Elemaster’s specialized areas of expertise. This includes onboard control and communication systems, safety and stability systems, signaling technology, the monitoring and control of rail vehicles, and maintenance services. In 2016, Elemaster was one of eleven European partners in the Safe4RAIL project .
“The rail sector is increasingly using electronic functions – from safety systems to energy and data management,” explains Valentina Cogliati, CEO and President of the Elemaster Group . “With the Repair Centre, we have also integrated the areas of analysis, repair, and refurbishment into the group, thus completing a process that begins with development and extends through to the operational phase of the product. This organization addresses requirements that are becoming increasingly important for the European rail industry – from operational continuity to obsolescence management for electronic components.”
The connection between testing and repair is particularly close: expertise from development and production is later used to identify the causes of errors and to verify the restoration of the intended functions after a repair.
Recent railway projects include a system for interrupting the hydrogen supply during unusual accelerations, a control unit for detecting people in the danger zone between the train and infrastructure, as well as electronics and a test bench for wheel slip monitoring. Further activities concern fire detection and management, high-voltage protection, drive control, and distributed data processing on board.
