Murata Manufacturing , a soft-terminated multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) for transmission systems and automotive safety equipment. The world’s first soft-terminated MLCC chip achieves the highest available capacitance of 2.2 μF at 100 VDC in the smallest size of 0.805 inches (2.0 × 1.25 mm)*.
With the acceleration of vehicle electrification and the improvement of autonomous driving (AD) and driver assistance systems (ADAS), engineers face increasing pressure to integrate more functionality into ever smaller spaces on printed circuit boards. The wider adoption of 48V power supply systems demands components that combine high capacitance, high voltage tolerance, and reduced size. At the same time, mechanical stress caused by board bending due to vibration and thermal cycling during driving remains a reliability concern. The GCJ21BD72A225KE02 solves all these challenges.
Built upon Murata’s proprietary ceramic material design, including precise particle size control and uniformity, the soft-terminated chip MLCC achieves 2.2 μF at 100 Vdc in the 0805-inch form factor, a rating previously only possible in the larger 1206-inch (3.2 × 1.6 mm) form factor. The result is an approximately 51% reduction in board mounting area compared to Murata’s previous 2.2 μF/100 Vdc offering and an approximately 2.2-fold increase in capacitance over the previous 0805-inch, 100 Vdc product. The soft termination further enhances field reliability by absorbing board bending stress and reducing the risk of post-mount cracking.
The GCJ21BD72A225KE02 supports an operating temperature range of -55 °C to +125 °C and meets the X7T temperature characteristics according to EIA standards.
