Kioxia and Dell Technologies are the first to launch high-density servers equipped with 9.8 PB of flash storage.

Kioxia Corporation , a global leader in storage solutions, today announced a breakthrough in high-density storage infrastructure, partnering with Dell Technologies to launch a 2U server configuration with flash storage capacity scalable to an unprecedented 9.8 PB (1) . By combining a Dell PowerEdge™ R7725xd server with an AMD EPYC™ processor and 40 E3.L form factor KIOXIA LC9 series 245.76 terabyte (TB) NVMe™ solid-state drives, the two companies are building a new storage-optimized platform designed to meet the needs of AI, large-scale data lakes, and data-intensive enterprise workloads.

Dell Technologies and Kioxia have long collaborated to build scalable infrastructure for data-driven applications. This latest milestone underscores their shared commitment to driving high-density architectures to improve performance, reduce energy consumption, and maximize data center efficiency.

Arun Narayanan, Senior Vice President of Computing and Networking at Dell Technologies, stated, “As the demands of AI workloads continue to increase, the supporting infrastructure must also be upgraded accordingly. The Dell PowerEdge R7725xd, paired with KIOXIA’s high-capacity enterprise-class SSDs, provides customers with the storage density and energy efficiency they need to expand their AI infrastructure without sacrificing performance.”

The Dell PowerEdge R7725xd servers are designed for modern AI and data center workloads, combining high-density storage with powerful computing capabilities. These flexible, air-cooled storage configurations complement servers with graphics processing units (GPUs), providing massive storage capacity throughout the AI lifecycle to support AI data management and model training. These systems can be configured with up to five 400 Gbps network interface cards (NICs), enabling users to populate and transfer data more efficiently, ultimately unlocking the full value of their data. When paired with KIOXIA LC9 series 245.76 TB SSDs, these systems offer a high-capacity, energy-efficient solution that reduces total cost of ownership (TCO) and data center footprint.

The KIOXIA LC9 series SSDs offer up to 245.76 TB of flash storage capacity with PCIe® 5.0 performance and support multiple form factors, including 2.5-inch, E3.S, and E3.L (2) . As the industry’s first (3) NVMe SSD of this capacity designed for generative AI environments, the KIOXIA LC9 series provides an attractive alternative to the mainstream 30.72 TB SSDs on the market. A similar 9.8 PB configuration would require an additional 7 servers and 280 drives, increasing power consumption by 8 times (4) and requiring more rack space. In contrast, the new solution achieves more efficient use of space and power, enabling enterprises to expand their AI infrastructure without increasing physical footprint or energy consumption.

Akihiro Kimura, Technical Executive of the Solid State Drives Division at Kioxia Corporation, stated, “The combination of the Dell PowerEdge R7725xd server and the KIOXIA LC9 series enterprise-class solid state drives represents more than just high-density storage; it’s a revolution in AI infrastructure architecture design. Customers will be able to deploy massive data ingestion streams, easily expand data lakes, and perform large-scale backups with a minimal footprint, optimizing total cost of ownership to a whole new level.”

This solution highlights how the deep integration of computing power and storage innovation can unlock new efficiency potential for enterprise and hyperscale data center scenarios. By achieving extreme storage density without sacrificing performance or energy efficiency, Kioxia and Dell Technologies are helping enterprises modernize their infrastructure to keep pace with the accelerating growth of data and the widespread adoption of AI applications.

(1) As of May 15, 2026, based on a Kioxia survey.
(2) The 245.76 TB capacity is only available in the E3.L form factor. The 2.5-inch and E3.S form factors support up to 122.88 TB.
(3) As of July 21, 2025, based on a Kioxia survey.
(4) As of May 15, 2026, based on a comparison of power consumption with the 30.72 TB KIOXIA LC9 series SSD and servers.

*Solid State Drive (SSD) Capacity Definitions: Kioxia Corporation defines kilobytes (KB) as 1000 bytes, megabytes (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, gigabytes (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes, terabytes (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, petabytes (PB) as 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes, and kilobits (KiB) as 1024 bytes. However, computer operating systems report storage capacity using powers of 2, i.e., 1GB = 2^30 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes, 1TB = 2^40 bytes = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, thus displaying a smaller storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary depending on file size, format, settings, software and operating system, and/or pre-installed software applications or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.

*Flash memory capacity is calculated as follows: 1 terabit (1 Tb) = 1,099,511,627,776 (2^40) bits, 1 terabyte (1 TB) = 1,099,511,627,776 (2^40) bytes.

*2.5 inches refers to the form factor of the solid-state drive, not its actual physical size.
