Horse Powertrain, a world leader in innovative, low-emission propulsion systems, has unveiled the HORSE W30, the company’s first production-ready V6 engine, ahead of the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.
The HORSE W30 marks a first step for Horse Powertrain, as it transfers its expertise in creating optimized three- and four-cylinder engines to the V6 category. By applying its knowledge in this way, Horse Powertrain has developed the lightest V6 on the market and created a V6 specifically designed for hybrid systems with outstanding fuel economy and efficiency.
The HORSE W30 is a 3-liter engine that can be mounted transversely or longitudinally, allowing it to be installed in a wide variety of vehicles. The two cylinder banks are arranged at a 90° angle to lower the engine’s center of gravity, which simplifies installation and optimizes the placement of the catalytic converter.
The engine can generate between 350 and 400 kW of power and between 600 and 700 Nm of torque, with a maximum speed of 8,000 rpm. To maximize efficiency and fuel economy, the HORSE W30 features integrated exhaust manifolds and turbochargers mounted directly to the cylinder heads. The engine weighs just 160 kg, approximately 10 kg less than the second lightest V6 engine currently on the market.
The HORSE W30 is intended for mild and full hybrid vehicles, and the first models with this engine will be on the road in 2028. To embody the hybrid-first philosophy of the HORSE W30, the engine will be unveiled in Beijing alongside the new HORSE 4LDHT four-speed hybrid transmission.
The HORSE 4LDHT weighs just 199 kg and is designed to be mounted in a P1 + P3 configuration. The P1 motor, which assists the engine’s crankshaft and recharges the vehicle’s battery, can generate between 250 and 300 kW of power, while the P3 motor, intended for propulsion, is capable of developing between 350 and 450 kW of power in a P3 configuration.
Matias Giannini, CEO of Horse Powertrain, stated: “At Horse Powertrain, we believe we can offer automakers unprecedented economies of scale and innovation by consolidating the powertrain production and development chain that, traditionally, would have been replicated individually by many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), allowing everyone in the industry to benefit from best-in-class technologies. The HORSE W30 is a clear example of this concept: by bringing our mindset and expertise to a new category, we have developed the lightest V6 ever, designed from the ground up to power hybrid vehicles.”
Fortune Zhao, Chief Technology Officer of Horse Powertrain, stated : “The HORSE W30 showcases Horse Powertrain’s technological versatility and represents our first foray into the V6 engine category. Leveraging the expertise gained with our extensive range of engines specifically designed for hybrid systems, the HORSE W30 is lighter and more compact than any other V6 engine currently on the market, while delivering superior performance. Beyond embodying our engineering sophistication, it also highlights our flexibility in providing top-tier hybrid solutions to all markets.”
The HORSE W30 and HORSE 4LDHT models will be available in 2028.
