Suzano Expands Flake Pasta Output with New Production Line, Boosting Capacity 400%

Suzano, the world’s largest producer of pulp and paper, has successfully commissioned a new fluff pulp production line at its Limeira mill in São Paulo state, Brazil, marking a major milestone in the company’s growth strategy. The BRL 490 million investment has expanded Suzano’s total fluff pulp production capacity by more than 400 percent, increasing output from 100,000 tons to 440,000 tons per year.

The project involved the conversion of the mill’s existing pulp production line into a highly flexible operation capable of manufacturing both Eucafluff® and conventional commercial pulp. This adaptability allows Suzano to respond more efficiently to shifting market demands while strengthening its position in value-added pulp segments. Eucafluff® is primarily used in the production of absorbent and personal hygiene products, including baby and adult diapers, sanitary napkins, and pet mats. Commercial pulp produced at the facility serves a wide range of applications such as toilet paper, printing and writing paper, and paper-based packaging.

Introduced in 2015, Eucafluff® represents a significant innovation in the global pulp industry. It is the world’s first fluff pulp made from eucalyptus, offering distinctive performance benefits compared to traditional pine-based fluff pulp. Products made with Eucafluff® are known for enhanced softness and flexibility, enabling the development of thinner, more discreet, and more comfortable hygiene products for consumers.

One of the key advantages of Eucafluff® is its high compressibility, which allows manufacturers to reduce the size of product packaging. This, in turn, lowers the consumption of plastic film and helps decrease transportation and storage costs across the supply chain. In addition, products manufactured using 100 percent Eucafluff® demonstrate excellent liquid retention and low rewetting, meaning they are able to keep moisture away from the surface for longer periods, improving comfort and dryness for end users.

Suzano has also highlighted the environmental benefits of its eucalyptus-based fluff pulp. A life cycle assessment study conducted in 2024 showed that Eucafluff® offers multiple environmental advantages when compared with pine flake pulp produced in the southeastern United States, reinforcing Suzano’s commitment to sustainability and responsible production.

Commenting on the development, Guilherme Melhado Miranda, Global Director of Fluff and Fibre Solutions at Suzano, said that the product’s journey over the past decade has been transformative. “Over the past 10 years, Eucafluff® has gone from a revolutionary idea to a global reality. Thanks to our increased production capacity, we are now better positioned to meet growing demand and help our customers worldwide develop innovative and sustainable products,” he said.

With the commissioning of the new production line at Limeira, Suzano strengthens its leadership in the fluff pulp segment while supporting the global hygiene products industry with high-performance, sustainable raw materials.

This expansion underlines Suzano’s commitment to operational excellence, sustainability and innovation, in line with the company’s strategy of providing renewable solutions to replace fossil materials.
