Pacífico Mexinol informed that it has concluded its annual hydrostatic monitoring study and compiled reference data. Desde fines de 2024, Mexinol will show up to the point where the residual water from Los Mochis is sold in the oxidación lagoons administered by the Junta de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado del Municipio de Ahome (JAPAMA).
The results of the analysis – carried out by an accredited Mexican laboratory – have more than 60 values, including pH, weighed metals and different solids. This information is essential for the final design of the innovative water reutilization project developed by Veolia , world leader in water technology.
Pacífico Mexinol is developed by Transition Industries LLC , a company dedicated to methane and hydrogen projects that scale the world with net carbon dioxide emissions. The project was transformed into the largest independent chemical production plant with ultra-low carbon emissions in the world, with a production of 6,130 tons of metric tons of methanol (TM).
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU, in English) firmed in 2024, Veolia will be responsible for the design and equipment of the water treatment plant for the methane project in Topolobampo. Veolia will also take care of the door and the operation of the equipment to optimize the performance of the system and guarantee efficient and sustainable operation.
In addition, as part of its Vecino Program and its strategic investment initiative, Transition Industries will finance the improvement of JAPAMA’s residual water collection systems. This will allow a large volume of residual water from Los Mochis to enter the oxidación lagoons and prevent it from being discharged by treatment on the Bahía de Ohuira.
This is what represents a hit to water management in Mexico. The water that the future plant will use will come from treated residual water, supplied at the price of municipal installations operated by JAPAMA. This way, the recurso receives a new life as in sumo industrial hydro of high value, while it will generate additional ingredients for the entity.
If this water is used in a basic treatment, it contains residual particles, organic materials, nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus), salts and microorganisms. You can now play Veolia’s advanced re-use technologies, through a process of four steps that will allow the total regeneration of the water and a sustainable water purification to meet strict quality standards: ZeeWeed™ 500EV Membrane Bioreactor; MUNI and PRO flex ™ – Reverse Osmosis in back steps; UV Oxidation and E-Cell™ – Electrodeionization (EDI).
A circular and responsible water model
Once the plant supplied by Veolia comes into operation, Mexinol will convert the residual water into a strategic water source, without competing with the natural water sources intended for agricultural, urban or domestic uses.
With this technological inversion, Pacífico Mexinol will be positioned between the few businesses in the world that use residual municipal water at this scale and at this level of climate, minimizing the environmental impact and maximizing the efficiency in the use of water sources.
In this way, Topolobampo and Sinaloa position themselves at the vanguard of innovation in industrial hydroelectricity, demonstrating that it is possible to promote economic development while preserving the environment, promoting social inclusion and maintaining a long-term vision oriented to future generations.
