Emerson’s Oxygen Analyzer Simplifies Combustion Optimization

Today, Emerson introduced its latest innovation in combustion monitoring technology—the Rosemount™ CX2100 In Situ Oxygen Analyzer. Designed to deliver critical data for optimizing combustion processes, this analyzer aims to help manufacturers meet stringent emissions standards, reduce energy costs, and enhance overall operational safety. With its advanced features, the CX2100 is positioned as a transformative solution across a wide range of industries, including power generation, utilities, chemical and petrochemical manufacturing, pulp and paper, petroleum refining, and metals and mining.

Traditional oxygen analyzers used in combustion processes have often presented challenges in terms of installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance. These hurdles can impede efforts to optimize combustion, leading to inefficiencies, increased emissions, and elevated operational risks. Emerson’s new CX2100 addresses these limitations by offering a user-friendly, highly versatile solution that simplifies every stage of the analyzer lifecycle.

One of the standout features of the CX2100 is its simplified installation process. The analyzer supports a broad range of accessories, allowing deployment across diverse process conditions—including high-temperature, high-particulate, and high-sulfur environments. The design allows the transmitter to be mounted up to 300 feet (91 meters) away from the probe, which reduces complexity and enhances safety for operators working in hazardous areas. This separation is particularly valuable in industrial settings where access to the process area may be limited or dangerous.

Commissioning the CX2100 is equally straightforward. The analyzer’s local operator interface features a guided setup and commissioning function, available in seven languages, which helps ensure accurate configuration with minimal effort. The interface incorporates capacitive touch buttons and offers extensive customization options, making it adaptable to a wide range of plant requirements. Housed in a rugged metal enclosure, the interface is designed to withstand harsh industrial conditions, safeguarding the internal electronics from environmental stressors. For added convenience, the guided setup can also be completed remotely through a host system, such as a plant control system or asset management platform, enabling commissioning without direct access to the analyzer.

Maintenance efficiency is another key benefit of the CX2100. The analyzer’s probe includes a quick connect/disconnect feature, significantly reducing downtime by eliminating the need for complex rewiring during replacement or service. The probe is equipped with durable ceramic or Hastelloy diffusers, which protect it from degradation in high-temperature and chemically aggressive environments. These diffusers are field replaceable, extending the service life of the analyzer while minimizing operational interruptions.

Accuracy and reliability are critical in oxygen monitoring, and the CX2100 delivers on both fronts. Its autocalibration and autocalibration check features ensure that analyzer readings remain precise over time, reducing the need for manual intervention by technicians. This not only frees personnel to focus on higher-value tasks but also enhances safety by maintaining the analyzer within its calibrated limits. In addition, the CX2100 includes a flame safety interlock feature, which automatically turns off the probe’s heater if a flameout is detected, preventing potential hazards and contributing to safer plant operations.

By combining ease of installation, streamlined commissioning, low-maintenance design, and advanced safety features, the Rosemount CX2100 represents a significant step forward in combustion process monitoring. Manufacturers can rely on the CX2100 to provide continuous, high-fidelity oxygen measurements, enabling better control of combustion efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, and compliance with environmental regulations. Its versatile design ensures it can adapt to a wide range of industrial applications, making it a valuable addition to any facility focused on operational excellence and safety.

With the launch of the CX2100, Emerson reinforces its commitment to helping industrial operators optimize performance, enhance safety, and achieve sustainability goals. By addressing the common pain points of traditional analyzers, the CX2100 sets a new standard for in situ oxygen measurement, empowering plants to operate more efficiently and safely while meeting evolving environmental and regulatory requirements.
