Emerson Unveils High-Precision, Stable Temperature Transmitter with Advanced Diagnostics

Emerson has officially launched the Rosemount™ 3144S Temperature Transmitter, a cutting-edge industrial measurement solution designed to meet the most demanding temperature measurement challenges. This latest addition to Emerson’s portfolio offers a combination of precision, reliability, ease-of-use, and advanced diagnostic capabilities, enabling process industries to improve efficiency, safety, and overall profitability.

In modern industrial environments, technicians and plant managers increasingly require temperature measurement devices that deliver exceptional accuracy and consistent performance. Even a single measurement point that behaves erratically or fails unexpectedly can have a significant impact on overall plant productivity and operational efficiency. Alongside accuracy, usability has become a critical factor, particularly as the workforce in the process industry evolves. Many facilities are now staffed with fewer employees, and a growing proportion of operators are recent hires who rely on intuitive, easy-to-use instrumentation to carry out complex tasks effectively.

The Rosemount 3144S Temperature Transmitter is engineered to address these exact challenges. The device offers remarkable accuracy of 0.05 degrees Celsius (0.09 Fahrenheit), meeting the stringent requirements of processes that demand the highest level of measurement performance. For applications where long-term stability is crucial, Emerson provides an optional 20-year stability specification, backed by a 20-year limited warranty. This makes the Rosemount 3144S one of the most reliable and durable temperature transmitters currently available on the market.

A major innovation in the new transmitter is Emerson’s ReadyConnect™ Technology, which greatly simplifies configuration and commissioning. Traditionally, configuring a temperature transmitter involves manually entering sensor details and Callendar-Van Dusen coefficients—a time-consuming and error-prone process. ReadyConnect™ allows plug-and-play sensor configuration at the push of a button, eliminating these manual steps and saving valuable time for technicians.

“The Rosemount 3144S Temperature Transmitter fits well in a wide variety of applications across a broad range of industries, making it a versatile choice for many different types of temperature measurement needs,” said Ryan Leino, senior product manager with Emerson’s measurement solutions business. This versatility makes the transmitter suitable for industries ranging from chemical and oil & gas to power generation and water treatment, addressing the diverse needs of process engineers around the globe.

Ease-of-use is further enhanced through a simplified operator interface, featuring a task-based menu and a consistent navigation structure across both host systems and configuration tools. Quick Service Buttons allow local access to essential commissioning and maintenance tasks, including viewing the current configuration, performing loop tests, and rotating the display for optimal readability. For even greater convenience, Bluetooth® wireless technology enables operators to access the device remotely from distances of up to 50 feet, improving both productivity and safety while reducing the need to physically access hard-to-reach measurement points.

The Rosemount 3144S also tackles the challenges of measuring in thermowell applications. It expands the application coverage of Emerson’s Rosemount X-well™ Technology, a non-intrusive measurement solution, allowing accurate measurements at temperatures of up to 650 degrees Celsius (1,202 degrees Fahrenheit). This makes it possible to handle extreme process conditions without compromising sensor integrity or safety.

Advanced diagnostic capabilities are a standout feature of the 3144S. The transmitter includes Loop Integrity diagnostics and RTD Measurement Protection, offering comprehensive monitoring from the temperature sensor all the way to the control room. Loop Integrity continuously monitors the entire electrical loop, detecting potential failures before they occur and providing operators with real-time insights into the health of each measurement point. Meanwhile, RTD Measurement Protection ensures uninterrupted operation by automatically switching from a 4-wire to a 3-wire RTD configuration if one of the sensor wires becomes broken, corroded, or loose, from the sensor element to the transmitter terminals.

By combining high precision, long-term stability, advanced diagnostics, and intuitive operation, the Rosemount 3144S Temperature Transmitter sets a new benchmark for temperature measurement technology. Emerson’s latest innovation empowers plants to optimize process control, reduce unplanned downtime, and maintain operational excellence across a wide range of industrial applications.
