Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon Showcases Race-Bred Design

Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon Unveiled at Laguna Seca: A Bold Showcase of Race-Bred Carbon Fiber Technology

The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon, the latest addition to the Mustang GTD lineup, made its highly anticipated debut today at California’s iconic Laguna Seca Raceway. The choice of venue was no coincidence—Laguna Seca is synonymous with high-performance motorsport and innovation, making it the perfect stage to reveal a trim that places advanced, race-inspired carbon fiber technology at the forefront of both design and performance.

From the moment it rolled onto the track, the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon stood out as more than just another special edition. Instead of relying on paint or flashy finishes, it proudly puts its carbon-fiber construction on full display. This approach underlines how crucial lightweight materials are in motorsport and how they have been directly integrated into this road-going machine. The GTD range was inspired by the Mustang GT3, which currently competes in IMSA racing, and the Liquid Carbon trim further blurs the line between track-ready race cars and street-legal performance vehicles.

Carbon Fiber as the Core Philosophy

Carbon fiber has long been the material of choice for race vehicles across the globe. Whether in IMSA, Formula 1, or endurance racing, its combination of strength, rigidity, and lightness allows vehicles to push the boundaries of speed and aerodynamics. The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon embodies that principle.

Unlike conventional vehicles that rely on painted sheet metal, the Liquid Carbon skips the paint booth entirely. Instead, it features raw, meticulously aligned exposed carbon fiber. This not only enhances the car’s striking aesthetic but also shaves off crucial weight. By replacing sheet metal in the doors with bonded carbon fiber and eliminating paint, the GTD Liquid Carbon saves approximately 13 pounds compared with the Mustang GTD Carbon Series equipped with the Performance Package. In motorsport, even small gains in weight savings can translate to measurable improvements in acceleration, handling, and overall agility.

Greg Goodall, Mustang GTD’s Chief Program Engineer, summarized the philosophy behind the trim:
“Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon is the ultimate expression of the Mustang GTD’s high-tech, high-performance construction and is a reminder of the race-derived, cutting-edge capability that sits beneath the surface of every Mustang GTD. Mustang GTD is a great-looking car, and now it stands out even more with its striking exposed carbon body and functional aero elements.”

Perfectly Aligned Carbon Weave

Ford’s attention to detail is evident in the precision of the Liquid Carbon’s construction. As with the Mustang GTD Carbon Series, the exposed carbon weave aligns flawlessly across critical components, including the hood, roof, rear deck, and rear wing. The fenders and side panels continue that alignment with the car’s dorsal elements, creating a seamless flow of patterns that accentuates the body’s sculpted lines. This isn’t merely for show—it demonstrates the precision craftsmanship required to deliver such a technically advanced vehicle.

The exterior is further complemented by unique visual touches. The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon comes with a black anodized finish, gloss-black GTD script, and distinctive black Brembo brake calipers, all of which provide a subtle yet commanding presence. The standard inclusion of the Performance Package ensures that buyers not only get the visual flair but also track-bred mechanical enhancements.

Anthony Colard, Mustang GTD Design Manager, emphasized the importance of these finishing details:
“High performance requires high precision. When we were designing Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon, it was essential that these small details were present, because they speak to the care and attention required to both build a vehicle like Mustang GTD and to compete and win on the world’s stage with Mustang GT3.”

A Driver-Focused Interior

While the exterior proudly celebrates raw carbon fiber, the interior balances functionality with sophistication. The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon’s cabin features a bold mix of black leather, Dinamica microfiber suede, and vivid Hyper Lime stitching that runs across the seats, door panels, instrument panel, center console, and steering wheel. A reflective gradient running down the center of the seats provides a striking visual focal point and reinforces the car’s performance-driven yet stylish persona.

The interior design serves a dual purpose: to deliver comfort and luxury while ensuring that the driver feels connected to the vehicle in the same way a racing driver feels integrated with their car. Every material and stitch reflects Ford’s intent to provide an uncompromising, race-inspired experience for the road.

Expanding the Mustang GTD Family

The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon joins an expanding lineup of GTD variants that include the standard GTD, the Carbon Series, and the patriotic-themed Spirit of America edition. Together, these models give customers varying degrees of exposed carbon fiber and design personality, ensuring that enthusiasts can choose a Mustang GTD that best reflects their own preferences. Some may favor the bold and raw Liquid Carbon, while others may opt for a more painted, refined finish.

This flexibility highlights Ford’s commitment to giving Mustang GTD buyers not just performance, but also individuality.

Deliveries Begin Soon

The first deliveries of the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon are expected to begin in October, bringing this distinctive new trim to the driveways of eager customers. With its race-bred engineering, lightweight construction, and unmistakable styling, the Liquid Carbon is poised to become one of the most sought-after and talked-about members of the Mustang GTD family.

As Joe Bellino, Mustang GTD Brand Manager, explained, the Liquid Carbon’s arrival underscores Ford’s vision of translating motorsport technology into vehicles that thrill both on the track and the road. It is not merely a trim level—it is a bold statement about what performance cars can be when racing DNA is allowed to shine through without compromise.
