XPENG Begins Local X9 Production and Delivery in Indonesia

XPENG Delivers First Locally-Made X9 in Indonesia, Launches Global Strategy with GIIAS Debut

XPENG Motors a prominent Chinese smart electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has reached a significant milestone in its global journey with the first local delivery of its XPENG X9 in Indonesia. The historic handover took place during the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), marking the company’s official entry into localized production overseas. This strategic move is a key component of XPENG’s broader international expansion and localization efforts.

The delivery of the XPENG X9 in Indonesia follows the operational commencement of XPENG’s first overseas manufacturing facility in the country. This milestone highlights XPENG’s decision to make Indonesia the cornerstone of its global production blueprint. XPENG Chairman and CEO, Xiaopeng He, appeared via video during GIIAS to announce that Indonesia would serve as the company’s first offshore manufacturing base — a move designed to anchor XPENG’s long-term regional presence.

Indonesia as a Strategic Launchpad

Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest automotive market, is central to XPENG’s ambitions in the region. By establishing local manufacturing capabilities, XPENG is not only tapping into a fast-growing EV market but also positioning itself to better understand and serve the preferences of Southeast Asian consumers.

The choice of Indonesia reflects XPENG’s confidence in the nation’s manufacturing potential, infrastructure, and government support for the EV ecosystem. Local production enables XPENG to provide faster delivery, more tailored solutions, and a deeper integration of its smart mobility technologies into the local context.

The company’s first Indonesian-built XPENG X9 rolled off the production line on July 1, 2025. The X9 — an intelligent electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) — blends sleek, spaceship-inspired design aesthetics with practical functionality for families. With over 30,000 units already sold globally, the model is gaining significant traction across key Asia-Pacific markets, including in Hong Kong where it was the best-selling MPV in June.

A Groundbreaking Road Journey to Jakarta

To celebrate the launch and showcase the capabilities of the X9, XPENG organized an ambitious international road trip. Three Chinese XPENG owners embarked on a journey on July 5 from Guangzhou, China, driving the X9 through Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, eventually arriving in Jakarta, Indonesia. The 4,000-kilometer (approx. 2,485-mile) journey marked the first time a Chinese electric MPV had traversed Southeast Asia and crossed the equator.

This transcontinental expedition demonstrated not only the X9’s endurance, smart features, and reliability under various road and climate conditions, but also XPENG’s ability to execute creative brand activations that resonate with global audiences. The vehicle’s smart cockpit, advanced driver-assistance systems, and rear-wheel steering proved essential in navigating diverse terrain, reinforcing its credentials as a top-tier electric MPV for global markets.

Smart Innovation Showcased: The New G6

Alongside the X9, XPENG also debuted the new G6 SUV at GIIAS. The G6 has already made waves in Europe, having launched successfully just two weeks prior, and its presence in Indonesia signals XPENG’s aggressive timeline for global rollout.

The new G6 integrates some of the most advanced technologies in the smart EV market. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset and NVIDIA’s Orin-X processor, giving it a competitive edge with 7.5 times more AI processing power and three times the graphical processing speed compared to most vehicles available in the Indonesian market.

This hardware enables an immersive digital cockpit experience, enhanced with responsive voice control, 3D navigation, and adaptive user interfaces. Its intelligent driving system is among the most advanced available in Southeast Asia and is designed to respond to dynamic road environments and varying traffic conditions — crucial for the region’s urban centers.

A Commitment to Localization and Growth

“Indonesia embraces some of the world’s most respected manufacturing ambitions. Our investment here—building facilities, nurturing talent—reflects our commitment to bringing advanced technologies to Indonesia. This is our pledge,” said Xiaopeng He in his video address at GIIAS.

XPENG’s investment in local infrastructure and talent development underlines a broader commitment to the region’s economic development. By training local engineers, technicians, and support staff, XPENG is ensuring long-term operational sustainability and contributing to Indonesia’s emerging EV ecosystem.

The Road Ahead

XPENG’s Indonesian expansion is just the beginning of a broader global manufacturing and market strategy. With plans to extend operations across other parts of Southeast Asia and further into Europe, the company is positioning itself as a serious competitor in the premium smart EV space.

By integrating AI-driven vehicle systems, localized production, and customer-centric solutions, XPENG is distinguishing itself from other Chinese EV startups that rely solely on exports. Instead, XPENG aims to be a truly global automaker, capable of scaling manufacturing while adapting to regional market dynamics.

The success of the XPENG X9 in Indonesia and the positive reception of the new G6 illustrate XPENG’s increasing momentum in key international markets. As XPENG continues to roll out its intelligent mobility solutions, it reinforces its ambition to lead the new wave of sustainable, connected, and autonomous driving experiences worldwide.
