The goal for the 2025 model was to improve ride comfort without sacrificing the refined driving dynamics that made the previous version popular.

Suspension Reimagined for a Smoother Ride

Ford engineers began with the proven body-on-frame architecture that defines its large SUVs and trucks. Using this solid foundation, they implemented a series of thoughtful changes designed specifically for the new Expedition. These included re-tuning the springs and shocks, repositioning the stabilizer bar attachments, softening the body mounts, and making structural enhancements to the rear frame and hitch.

These adjustments weren’t made in isolation—they work together to help the suspension “breathe” more effectively over uneven surfaces. Rather than reacting harshly to bumps, the 2025 Expedition now tracks more naturally along road imperfections, providing a smoother and more isolated ride. Importantly, this enhanced comfort does not come at the cost of a “floaty” or disconnected driving experience. Instead, the vehicle feels more composed and capable, whether it’s navigating city streets or taking on rugged terrain.

As a result of these upgrades, drivers and passengers will experience significantly less vibration and impact transferred through the seats. This translates to a more enjoyable driving experience, particularly on long-distance journeys.

The redesigned system allows for up to 7,000 pounds of towing capacity without a weight distribution hitch, which typically adds about 50 pounds and takes around 30 minutes to install. For heavier-duty towing, the Expedition can now tow up to 9,600 pounds with the use of weight distribution bars—an increase of 300 pounds over the previous model.

The All-New Tremor: Off-Road Ready

Ford has also introduced the 2025 Expedition Tremor, a dedicated off-road variant designed for adventure seekers who want rugged capability without sacrificing daily drivability. The Tremor takes the upgraded suspension to the next level with a taller stance, revised steering tuning, and enhanced off-road features.

With 48.3 mm of additional ground clearance, all-new springs and shocks, and tuning specifically engineered for trail use, the Tremor delivers confidence on rough terrain. Features like Rock Crawl mode, Trail Turn Assist, Trail 1-Pedal Drive, and robust underbody protection ensure it’s ready for whatever the wilderness throws at it.

Testing for the Tremor went far beyond the local trail. Ford engineers put the vehicle through its paces at rock parks, sandy trails, and even the extreme desert conditions of the United Arab Emirates. Despite the grueling terrain and sweltering heat, the Expedition Tremor maintained composure and comfort, a testament to its off-road prowess and balanced design.

Reducing Cabin Noise for Better Conversations

An improved ride quality would mean little without a quieter, more refined cabin. The 2025 Expedition also received updates aimed at reducing interior noise levels, especially important with the new split tailgate design that could have introduced new acoustic challenges.

To address this, Ford redesigned the exhaust mufflers, enhanced sealing around the split gate, and integrated a comprehensive sound-dampening package. These measures help reduce road and wind noise, improving overall cabin quietness. One specific goal was enhancing communication between front and rear passengers, especially between the first and third rows—a crucial factor in a vehicle often used for transporting families and groups.
