Autel Europe and ON Power Launch First MaxiCharger Megawatt Charging System in Europe, Ushering in a New Era for Heavy-Duty EV Infrastructure

Autel Europe has officially unveiled its first MaxiCharger Megawatt Charging System (MCS) in Europe, signaling a pivotal moment in the continent’s transition toward zero-emission heavy-duty transport. The successful deployment was carried out in collaboration with ON Power, a leading Icelandic charge point operator (CPO) and energy solutions provider. This partnership has resulted in the establishment of one of Europe’s most advanced high-power charging systems tailored for electric trucks and buses, representing a significant advancement in the continent’s commercial EV charging infrastructure.

The newly installed system is now fully operational at Digranesgata 4A in Borgarnes, a strategically located logistics hub along Iceland’s national ring road. With its prime location, the charging system is expected to serve as a critical node for electric freight and public transport vehicles navigating key logistics routes throughout the country.

High-Capacity Charging to Meet Growing Demand

The MaxiCharger MCS, as deployed in Iceland, delivers up to 640 kW of direct current (DC) charging power, making it one of the most powerful charging systems currently in operation in Europe. Built on a scalable and modular architecture, the system is designed for future expansion up to 1.2 megawatts (MW) and 1,500 amps. This ensures that the infrastructure will remain viable and adaptable as electric heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) continue to evolve and demand higher power capabilities.

The charging system has been tested for reliable operation in sub-zero temperatures, strong winds, and extreme weather conditions—critical attributes for ensuring uninterrupted service in challenging environments.

Moreover, the system complies with global standards such as IEC 61851 and ISO 15118, ensuring interoperability across different vehicle manufacturers and platforms. This allows the MCS platform to serve a broad range of electric trucks and buses without compatibility concerns, a major consideration in the emerging high-power charging sector.

Timely Development for a Decarbonizing Europe

The deployment of the MaxiCharger MCS comes as the European Union intensifies efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector. With newly adopted regulations targeting emissions from heavy-duty vehicles and ambitious targets for clean transport corridors across the EU, the need for powerful, reliable, and scalable charging solutions is more urgent than ever.

Earlier in 2025, Autel Europe actively contributed to the industry-wide push for MCS standardization by co-hosting the first MCS controller trial organized by CharIN. In June, the company successfully completed a megawatt-level vehicle-based charging test, further validating the reliability and readiness of its platform for real-world deployment.

These developments underscore Autel’s leadership in advancing megawatt charging technology and demonstrate the company’s readiness to meet the growing demands of fleet operators, logistics firms, and public transport authorities across Europe.
