Rivian Establishes East Coast Headquarters in Atlanta, Deepening Commitment to Georgia
Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has officially announced that it will establish its East Coast Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. The announcement was made jointly by Rivian, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. This strategic move is part of Rivian’s broader investment in the state, aligning with the company’s plans to construct a major manufacturing facility in nearby Social Circle. The new office is set to open in late 2025, with further expansion anticipated in 2026 as its Georgia operations gain momentum.
The new headquarters will be located at the Junction Krog District building, developed by Portman Holdings, at 667 Auburn Avenue NE. Situated near the Eastside Trail of the Atlanta Beltline, the site offers easy access to public transit and sits in one of Atlanta’s most dynamic and revitalized areas. Rivian will occupy the building’s top floor and lobby, creating an accessible and visible presence in the city’s growing innovation corridor.
By the end of 2025, Rivian expects to employ approximately 100 people at the Atlanta office. Once fully operational, the East Coast headquarters is projected to house around 500 employees, contributing significantly to the local economy and further strengthening Georgia’s position as a hub for electric vehicle innovation and technology.
Rivian CEO and Founder RJ Scaringe emphasized the importance of the location and the appeal of the city’s talent and culture. “We are excited to establish our East Coast head office in Atlanta,” Scaringe said. “Atlanta embodies so much that makes Georgia great—top talent, exceptional creativity, and a desire to always be moving forward.”
The announcement marks a major milestone in Rivian’s commitment to Georgia, reflecting confidence in the state’s infrastructure, workforce, and future as a national leader in clean energy and electric mobility. Rivian’s decision to base its regional headquarters in Atlanta adds to a growing list of major companies choosing Georgia for high-impact operations.
Governor Brian Kemp welcomed the announcement and highlighted its alignment with Georgia’s economic development priorities. “Georgia is a prime location for any company headquarters, and we’re glad to see Rivian will soon join the growing list of brands not only operating in our state but also wholly or partially based in our capital city,” Kemp stated. “They recognize the unmatched value of Georgia’s talent, and the location of their East Coast Headquarters in Atlanta is the latest demonstration of their commitment to the Peach State. I look forward to that commitment translating to new jobs and opportunities for hardworking Georgians.”
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens also praised the move, noting the city’s growing reputation in the EV and clean tech sectors. “Atlanta continues to lead in EV innovation and technology integration, and Rivian’s growing presence here reinforces our city’s role in shaping our future economy,” Dickens said. “The opening of this new office and event space reflects how Atlanta continues to engage the community in bold, creative ways. Thank you to the Rivian team for investing in our city and calling Atlanta home.”
Rivian’s deepening ties to Georgia began with its announcement to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Stanton Springs North, near the city of Social Circle. The planned factory, which represents one of the largest economic development projects in Georgia’s history, is expected to employ more than 7,500 workers and become a major production site for the company’s electric trucks and SUVs.
Beyond job creation, Rivian’s investment in Georgia also includes efforts to build lasting partnerships with regional stakeholders. The company has laid out plans to work closely with local and state-level institutions, including technical colleges and universities, to create pathways for workforce development and technical training tailored to the EV industry. These partnerships aim to provide skilled labor for Rivian’s manufacturing needs while also offering educational and career advancement opportunities to Georgia residents.
Rivian’s growing presence in the Southeast represents a significant shift in the American EV landscape. While the company maintains its headquarters in Irvine, California, and operates manufacturing facilities in Normal, Illinois, the establishment of a second base of operations on the East Coast underscores Rivian’s intention to scale rapidly and serve a broader geographic customer base. This move also aligns with a larger trend of EV companies expanding into regions with strong logistical advantages, supportive policy environments, and access to skilled labor.
The Atlanta location also positions Rivian in close proximity to a vibrant tech ecosystem, further fueling its innovation-driven strategy. Georgia’s status as a business-friendly state, combined with its strategic location and quality of life, continues to attract investment from leading technology and mobility companies.
In choosing Atlanta, Rivian adds to the city’s growing portfolio of high-profile tenants and stakeholders in the EV and sustainability space. This new headquarters not only marks a significant development in Rivian’s operational footprint but also signals broader momentum in the EV industry’s push toward nationwide infrastructure and presence.
As Rivian prepares for a future of accelerated growth, its decision to establish its East Coast headquarters in Georgia highlights both a long-term commitment to the region and a desire to anchor itself within one of America’s most dynamic urban and economic centers.
With office construction set to begin shortly and further developments underway at the manufacturing site in Social Circle, Rivian’s future in Georgia looks robust. As the electric vehicle revolution continues to gain speed, the company’s strategic investments are set to position both Rivian and Georgia at the forefront of the clean mobility movement.
