W&P Expands Electric Fleet with 20 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 and Opens High-Capacity Charging Park
W&P, a freight forwarding company based in Prichsenstadt, Bavaria, has taken another major step in its commitment to sustainable logistics by expanding its electric vehicle fleet and investing in its own high-capacity charging infrastructure. Known for its early adoption of e-mobility, the company is now further solidifying its role as a frontrunner in green transportation.
Previously operating a fleet composed primarily of about 40 Mercedes-Benz diesel trucks, W&P began integrating electric trucks into its operations with the addition of three battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 300. Each of these trucks covers daily routes of approximately 480 kilometers, proving the viability of electric trucking in long-haul logistics. Building on this success, W&P has now added 20 of the newly introduced Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks to its fleet.
The eActros 600 is Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ latest flagship electric truck, offering a range of 500 kilometers without intermediate charging. Its advanced electric drive technology, high efficiency, and practical long-distance capability made it an easy choice for W&P. Managing Director Alexander Wehr emphasized that the decision to invest in the eActros 600 was not solely about the vehicle itself but about the entire ecosystem that Mercedes-Benz Trucks provides around electromobility.
“The eActros 600 impressed us from the very first moment—not only with its impressive range and efficiency, but also with the holistic concept that Mercedes-Benz Trucks offers,” Wehr said. “As a freight forwarder focused on sustainable logistics, particularly in the recycling and premium textile sectors, it was clear to us that the future of transport is electric.”
Wehr also praised the valuable industry networking opportunities and shared insights during the vehicle’s world premiere in 2023, as well as the ongoing dialogue with Mercedes-Benz Trucks at local business events. “These exchanges weren’t just about technology—they were about developing real partnerships,” he added.
However, W&P’s ambitions extend beyond just electrifying its vehicle fleet. In a pioneering move, the company has also established its own charging park on its premises in Prichsenstadt. Strategically located in the Franconian Vineyards, near the A3 motorway and directly on the B286 highway, the site is designed to support both the company’s operations and the broader electrification of freight transport in the region.
The new facility includes 56 DC fast-charging stations capable of servicing a large volume of electric trucks. It’s not just the number of chargers that stands out, but the energy ecosystem that supports them. The charging park is powered by W&P’s own photovoltaic system, complemented by a substantial 15,000 kWh battery storage unit. This setup ensures both reliability and sustainability, allowing W&P to harness renewable energy for its operations and reduce its overall carbon footprint.
In addition to the charging infrastructure, the facility offers modern amenities for drivers, including clean toilets, showers, waiting rooms, and automated sanitation services. These features are designed to provide comfort during charging stops, improving the daily experience of truck drivers and underlining W&P’s commitment to employee and partner welfare.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks played a key role in the development of the charging park as part of its TruckCharge program. This initiative goes beyond vehicle sales, providing support for planning, constructing, and financing the necessary charging infrastructure. The collaboration also extended to assistance with subsidy applications, helping W&P make the project financially viable.
The official handover of the 20 new eActros 600 trucks took place during the grand opening of the charging park. Christian Wilz, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-Benz Trucks & FUSO Germany, was on hand to mark the occasion.
“We are particularly pleased that Spedition W&P is continuing its partnership with our company and has committed to 20 new eActros 600 vehicles,” Wilz said. “With the opening of this state-of-the-art charging park, W&P is not just electrifying its fleet—it’s paving the way for CO₂-free freight transport in the region.
